Congratulations to the Pleasanton Volunteer Fire Department who participated in the Wintergarden Pump Races in Del Rio. Left to right are: Rick Capps, Sheridon Murray, Josh Rodriguez, Jason Krueger, Aaron Leal and Gene Bosquez, Jr.. They were the overall first place winner in every category.

Readers Lauch Balloons – Leming Elementary students release balloons to kick off their book fair which began Oct. 6 as part of their Book It Project for October which is Book Month. Students hope cards attached to the balloons will be returned to them by the finder.

Pleasanton’s Gerald Trevino shifts gears as he heads up field after taking a handoff from quarterback Mike Greene (#9). Trevino scored twice and gained 98 yards in the Eagles’ 35-7 with over the Edgewood Red Raiders.

These talented members of Pleasanton High School Choir were selected as members of the All District Choir at District tryouts at Randolph High School last week. Young, Alternate Soprano I; Barbara Shiver, Alternate Alto I; and David Case, 15th Bass II; back row, left to right, Peggy McDougall, Alternate Soprano I; Randy Carroll, 3rd Bass II; Chuck Myers, 1st Ball II; and Gaye McDougall, Alternate Soprano I. Choir Director James Ward expressed his pleasure that so many of his group were selected for honors. THey are now preparing for Regional and Area tryouts which will be October 28th.

City Hall’s new computer is a whiz and Lou Riley will be preparing October utility bills on this new machine that can type 400 words a minute. Computer will also be used for tax record purposes.

The Pleasanton Eagle Band – 124 musicians strong is preparing for the annual UIL Marching contest to be held on November 13th. The Eagles have a string of 14 first divisions going for them, consecutive since 1954 and this year they hope to add number 15 to that string with director Doug Williamson at the helm.

60 years ago

This beautiful full float entered by the Pleasanton Rotary club was one of many in Pleasanton’s centennial parade here Saturday. The parade was regarded as a special success in view of threatening weather that cut down participation.
