Women’s Club of Pleasanton first place poetry winners, who also placed first at the Women’s Club Alamo District are, pictured left to right: Taniell Spiva, Kailyn Carr and Arden Lange. All three girls are 10-years old and love poetry. Arden received first place in poetry for the Pleasanton club three years ago. They stand by an authentic, old-time carousel which her parents Jon and Kathleen Lange are restoring. It now has a home in the front yard of their home.

Mary Lou Ordaz (left), Super S store manager in Poteet, and Jean Trucks, Jourdanton Super S store manager, invite one and all to come cool off with them on Saturday, Aug. 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Each store will hold an Ice Cream Social and customers will be treated to free ice cream samples and will be able to visit with the Keebler Elf and Well’s Blue Bunny.

The weary and bedraggled members of the Eye family are heading for the beach in an effort to find relief from a hot, dry West Texas desert summer. Members of the cast of ACT’s Cowboy Homecoming production, “A Whale a Texas Tale, or The Eyes of Sea World Are Upon Us,” include from left, Stacy Rakowitz, Twila Amador, Andy Austin, Trey Dart, Boots Austin, Monica Dart and Joe Bosquez. The play will be presented four times during Pleasanton’s upcoming Cowboy Homecoming, August 18, 20 and 21.

Chris Borth of Jourdanton and son of Jourdanton track coach, Norman Borth, earned a medal at the AAU Junior Olympics at Wichita State University on Aug. 4-5-6. Young Borth competed in the 50-meter hurdles and qualified in the first day’s preliminary trials, also in the 2nd day semifinals (7.76) and finished third in the finals in a time of 8.46.

Laura Kardell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Kardell of Pleasanton, will be a Rotary Exchange student attending Belgium University in Liege Belgium. Laura, a 1978 honor graduate of Pleasanton High School will return next June to enroll in Texas A&M University to major in civil engineering.

Practicing for Cowboy Homecoming grand entry are Atascosa County Sheriff’s Posse members Charlie Hodges and Joe Donato, with Molly Stewart right behind. This active group will be leading off the great Jaycee rodeo which will be held at ACRS on August 17, 18 and 19.

Poteet’s Boy Scout troop came home from a week at Indian Creek camp last Saturday bearing three awards which they had won while there. In the group were Tommy and Gaylon Wunsch, Bobby Adams, Jim Ross Davidson, Richard Tuttle, Ernie Opperman, Harry Nowlin, Larry Horn, Jim Kenney, Morris Franklin, Eddie Joe Willborn, Jimmy Grunewald, and Julio Huizar representing both the Wolf and Eagle Patrols.
