Cregg Thompson is the new Atascosa Constable for Precinct 3. Thompson was voted in as Constable Monday at Commissioner’s Court. He was sworn in to that office Tuesday by Atascosa County Judge Bob Hurley.

At the Atascosa County Commissioners Court special called meeting June 17, 2019, Agenda item number 7 was to discuss and take appropriate action concerning appointing a Constable for Precinct 3 due to an unfulfilled term. Constable Luna announced his intention to run for Atascosa County Sheriff on June 4 which triggered the Resign to Run provision from the Texas State Constitution leaving his office vacated. Two men applied for the vacated seat of Atascosa County Constable, Precinct 3 – Atascosa County Chief Deputy Sheriff Cregg Thompson of Charlotte and Atascosa County Precinct 3 Chief Deputy Philip Bosquez of Christine. The two gentlemen sat on either side of Constable Rick Luna in the courtroom where the meeting was moved to allow for more space.

Commissioner Mark Gillespie, Precinct 1 made a motion to select Cregg Thompson to the position. Commissioner Stuart Knowlton, Precinct 2 second the motion. In favor were Gillespie, Knowlton and Commissioner Kennard Riley, Precinct 4. Opposed was Commissioner Eliseo Perez, Precinct 3.
