Agates swinging away

MARISSA VALDEZ | PLEASANTON EXPRESS The Poteet Agates have had an intense past week of volleyball action. The Agates are bringing an impressive set of skills and talent to the court this season. The Agates had their fill of games, as they competed in a home dual and the Stockdale Tournament. Poteet is off to a 3-1 start to the season as they prepare for another busy week.
Home Dual- The Agates got their 2012 season up and running on Tuesday August 14th at home as they hosted the Charlotte Trojanettes and the Stockdale Lady Brahmas.
In the dual opener Poteet faced Charlotte, both teams came out pumped and ready for some action. The Agates put Charlotte away in match one with a 25-8 win. The Trojanettes took a minute to repair and fought tough to take a win in the second game but fell short 26-24. Poteet kept the momentum as they hit the court against the Lady Brahmas. Intensity was high and the Agates used that to put away Stockdale 25-19 and 25-15.
“For our first two matches of the season we look good. We still have a few things to work on and we will continue to get better every day. I am excited to see what this season holds for us. We have a great team with great leaders and unselfish players” stated Coach Garcia.
Stockdale Tournament- With a 2-0 record under the Agates belt, the team traveled down to the Stockdale Tournament on Thursday, August 16th. Starting the day, Poteet faced off with the Lady Brahmas in the first of three pool games. The Agates struggled in the matches with the Lady Brahmas, making little mistakes and bad decisions. This allowed Stockdale to defeat Poteet in two games 19-25 and 17-25.

Next up for Poteet, was fellow volleyball squad Jourdanton Squaws. The Agates came out high in hopes to make it a quick win and that is exactly what they did. Jourdanton fell to Poteet in two games 25-20 and 25-20.
In the final pool game the Agates went up against the Runge Lady Jackets. Poteet was able to defeat the Lady Jackets with 25-10 and 25-20 victories.
Bracket Play: On Saturday, the Agates returned to Stockdale with a win-win attitude. The Agates took the court against the Navarro Lady Panthers. Poteet was outplayed and took a 16-25 and 14-25 losses against Navarro. Coach Garcia critiqued and talked over the positions for improvement.
Poteet came back out refreshed and put all the advice into play as they competed against the Stockdale Lady Brahmas. They pulled in a 25-20 win in the first of three games. In game two they fell 14-25 before defeating the home squad 25-23 to capture 3rd place in the tournament.
11th Annual Arabian VB Round-Up: This Thursday August 23rd and Saturday August 25th, Poteet will compete in the 11th Annual Devine Arabian Volleyball Round Up. The Tourney will begin with two days of pool play before it will enter bracket play.
Poteet will be in Pool “B” which will play on Thursday at Devine High School. The Agates will face Devine at 12:00 noon, Leakey at 3:00 p.m. and Sabinal at 5:00 p.m.
Other teams participating in the tournament will include, Marion, Cotulla, Pleasanton and S.A Feast.
On Tuesday, August 28th the Agates will host the Devine Arabians for three games starting at 5:00 p.m. The varsity is set to take the court around 7:00 p.m.
