ERIC SMITH | PLEASANTON EXPRESS Members of the Poteet Varsity run through workout drills during their two-a-days. The Aggies host Sabinal on Saturday for scrimmage action. Photos of workouts are available on our photo website for 50% off all month. ERIC SMITH | PLEASANTON EXPRESS A new coach, a new vision, a new helmet and hopefully new results will be the scene in Poteet this coming football season. As the Aggies enter their second week of two-a-day workouts, Coach Henry Willis is really excited at what he has seen thus far. Anytime you can get faster, stronger and more competitive, good things should follow with time. This Saturday, Poteet opens their 2012 season, at home with their first scrimmage against the District 15-1A Sabinal Yellowjackets.

Workout Report- The attitude and work ethic hasn’t looked like this in many years at Aggie Land in the corner of Atascosa County. Coach Willis and staff, have been slowly introducing the Aggies to a brand new program which included many of the things above. Anytime you combine new things along with hard work and consistency, results should follow.

Poteet has continued to have around 85-90 kids active at practice each day thus far.

“It has been a very energetic week of practice full of boys flying around the field. If we can keep up this attitude and work ethic until week nine or ten, we will be in great shape,” stated Coach Willis.

The Aggie defense is something that Coach Willis is anxious to see in action. This season, Poteet will be led by Coach Clawson who comes to the program from Copperas Cove with other stints around Texas including power-house Poth.

“Coach Clawson is bringing something to Poteet that has not been here in a while. It is going to be a no non-sense attitude. He is a very fiery young guy and I am excited to see what he will do with our defense. They have been super physical thus far,” Coach Willis added.

Scrimmage Outlook- The Aggies will welcome in one of the traditionally tough 1A programs in South Texas on Saturday morning, Sabinal. The 1A pride of Uvalde County, comes to town coming off a 7-4 Bi-District finalist season in which they finished 3-2 in district. Sabinal once again, is picked to make the playoffs under second year Head Football Coach Jason Keller.

This season, the Jackets will return eight offensive and nine defensive starters from their squad. They will return plenty of skill positions like QB Adan Alejandro who threw for over 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns, not to mention rushed for almost 500 yards. He also had two RBs in Moore and Young who will keep the offense balanced with their run/pass attack.

Defensively, the Jackets will be a fiery little squad led by Alejandro and Young at the linebacker positions.

“I want to try and keep everyone healthy on Saturday. I want to see how we have progressed and I just feel good about things right now. It is like I tell the kids, I am not so much worried about what other teams do, but what we do as a team. I am excited to get started and am looking forward to facing Sabinal,” Coach Henry Willis stated in closing.

Aggie Stadium will be the site of the first scrimmage, as the sub-varsity will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the varsity to follow. This will be the Aggies first step toward turning around a program which finished 0-10 last season. Aggie fans, here is your chance to get out and be a part of a program on the rise in 2012.
