This photo of Art Shahan atop his roping horse Bee April was on the cover of Cattleman Magazine in the early ‘60’s. The photo was taken with a herd of Santa Gertrudis on Fairview Farms, which later became San Jose Cattle Company in Pleasanton. That year Mr. Shahan won a roping at Houston (in the mud outdoors, before the Astrodome) on Bee. “He rode for the brand.” Bee April was a great horse, and Art would win grand champion halter horse in the morning and win the calf roping and team tying in the evening.
