Let the workouts begin

FILE PHOTO | PLEASANTON EXPRESS Hard work and dedication will be a must for area volleyball and cross country squads for the 2012-2013 season. Championships are built in front of gyms with empty bleachers according to an old quote and that is what will occur beginning August 6th. “2-a-day/workouts” will begin for all five Brush Country Volleyball squads as well as for one local cross country squad.

Pleasanton Cross Country All athletes interested in Pleasanton Cross Country are to report to the high school track on August 6th at 7:00 p.m. All athletes must have their physical paper work completed and turned in before they practice. Pleasanton Volleyball- Coach Gabriel Aguirre is back to lead the Pleasanton Eagles once again this season. All incoming 9th graders will practice Monday, August 6th through Wednesday August 8th from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. and from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

All 10th-12th graders will practice the same days from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. and from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

The morning sessions will be held at the football field and the afternoon workouts at the sports complex. Teams will be chosen after Wednesday’s workouts.

On Thursday, practices will be held with individual coaches.

The Lady Eagles will hit the court on Friday at Medina Valley with a dual scrimmage against teams TBA at times TBA.

On Saturday, it will be a full day of action at the sports complex. Starting at 9:00 a.m., the Luling Lady Eagles and the Lytle Lady Pirates come to town for volleyball scrimmages. Scrimmage action will be followed up with the annual Alumni game at 1:00 p.m. at the sports complex.



The season opener will be at home on Tuesday, August 14th as the George West Lady Horns and the Devine Arabians come to town for the traditional dual opener. The freshman and JV squads will face opponents at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. as the varsity will battle at 6:00 and 7:00 p.m.

Jourdanton Squaws- The Jourdanton Squaws will be led again by Coach Tabitha Fogle. Workouts will also start on Monday, August 6th at J.H.S. The schedule for the week is as follows: Monday- All athletes will report at 7:45 a.m. Conditioning will be for all grade levels from 8:00- 10:00 a.m. Court workouts for upper-classmen will be from 11:30a.m.-1:30 p.m. and for the freshman from 1:15-3:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, conditioning will be from 7:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m., upper class 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., setters from 1:00-2:00 p.m. and freshmen from 2:00-3:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, conditioning from 7:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m., upper class from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., liberos from 1:00-2:00 p.m. and freshmen from 2:00-3:30 p.m. On Thursday, conditioning from 7:30-9:30 a.m., hitters and setters from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and from 12:30-2:30 p.m. all grades.

The Squaws will open their season at home on Friday at 1:00 p.m., as the McMullen County Cowgirls and the Holy Cross Knights come to town for scrimmages.

On Saturday, action returns back to J.H.S. as Bandera and Nixon-Smiley come to town for scrimmages which begin at 9:00 a.m.

Poteet Agates- Coach Angelica Garcia will enter her second season at the helm of the Poteet Agate Volleyball program. Garcia has an intense week of workouts planned for her teams.

Numerous workouts schedules are planned throughout each day of the week in which each athlete already has in hand.

On Friday, Poteet will host Three Rivers and Burbank for their first scrimmage action of the season. The freshmen will play at 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. and the varsity at 12:00 and 1:00 p.m.

On Saturday, Poteet travels to San Antonio to Roosevelt High to take on a number of squads in scrimmage action beginning at 9:00 a.m.

On Tuesday, August 14th the season opener will be in Poteet as the Charlotte Trojanettes and the Stockdale Lady Brahmas come to town. The freshmen will play at 12:00 noon, the jv at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. and the varsity at 12:00 noon and 2:00 p.m.

Charlotte Volleyball- The Charlotte Trojanettes will be under new leadership this coming season, as Coach Jessica Gonzales has moved to teach in McMullen County. The Trojanettes will have workouts from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon during the week of August 6th .

On Friday, August 10th the Trojanettes will host the Kenedy Leopards for a scrimmage at a time TBA.

The Trojanettes open their season on Tuesday, August 14th as they travel to Poteet to face the Agates and the Stockdale Lady Brahmas beginning at noon.

McMullen County- The McMullen County Cowgirls are coming off an impressive district title in 2011- 2012. Former head Coach Abbi Saunders has taken her talent to the Coastal Bend, as the Cowgirls will have a new leader at the helm of the program, Coach Darcy Remmers who you will meet next week in an article who came from Pettus High School.

The Cowgirls will have workouts from 8:00 a.m.- 12:00 noon throughout the week of August 6th.

On Friday, the Cowgirls travel to Jourdanton to face the Squaws and Holy Cross in scrimmage action at 1:00 p.m.

On Saturday, August 11th the Pettus Lady Eagles come to town for scrimmage action at 10:00 a.m.

The Cowgirls will open their season in Kenedy on Tuesday, August 14th as they face the Leopards, the Ben Bolt Lady Badgers and the Ganado Indians at times TBA.
