MISSIONS DEFEAT HOOKS 5-1

San Antonio Batting Wins the Game

July 25, 2012

San Antonio – The San Antonio Missions drew to within two games of first-place Corpus with their 5-1 win over the Hooks Wednesday night at Wolff Stadium.

San Antonio starter Keyvius Sampson earned his sixth win of the season, limiting Corpus to just the one run in five and two-thirds innings pitched.

The Missions got on the board in the first when Jonathan Galvez, who doubled, scored on a lined shot to right off the bat of Edinson Rincon who ended up at second base. Rincon, however, was called out for failing to touch first base.

The Missions struck again in the third as Nate Freiman drew a bases loaded walk that plated Reymond Fuentes and Jason Hagerty’s RBI groundout brought in Rincon to put San Antonio up 3-0.

The Hooks lone run would be scored in the fourth by Drew Locke’s sac fly.

Dean Anna and Fuentes tallied RBI’s for the Missions in the sixth to give San Antonio a four-run cushion.

Corpus threatened in the eighth, loading the bases with one out, but reliever Daniel Stange would retire the next two batters stranding all three runners. Stange finished the game and would earn the save, his fourth on the season.

The third and final game of the series and the home stand is tomorrow evening at 7:05pm. Matt Heidenreich, making his first start for Corpus,  will be opposed by fellow righty Josh Geer (4-3, 4.73 ERA) for San Antonio.

Thursday is Cricket Dollar Night at the ballpark with dollar popcorn, dollar soda, dollar hot dogs, and dollar beer.  Show that you’re a Cricket customer and receive a voucher good for $2.00 at the concessions stand for the game.

You can catch all the Missions action on KKYX 680 AM, the home of Missions baseball with Roy Acuff and Mike Saeger.
