Deadline nears for best Live Oak tree in Atascosa County
Could you use and extra $1,000? Do you own a Live Oak tree that is spectacular? Then you may want to enter it in the Jourdanton Rotary Club Magnificent Live Oak Tree contest.
The club wishes to recognize these trees as an important part of Atascosa County’s heritage, to locate and encourage tree owners to preserve them as landmarks and to stimulate interest and appreciate their worth as a natural resource.
The rules are as follows:
A. The tree entered must be owned by the entrant, be in Atascosa County, and be a living Live Oak tree.
B. The entry must be accompanied by not more than four photographs and the circumference of the tree trunk in inches. The circumference should be measured at a point on the main trunk below the first fork, about 4 feet above the ground excluding lumps and knots from the measurement. The judge will consider other factors consistent with horticultural standards.
C. The Entrant will submit a $25.00 entry fee with the Entrant’s name, address, phone number, and general description of the location of the tree being submitted for consideration. The check shall be made payable to “Jourdanton Rotary Club”. The entry should be mailed to “Jourdanton Rotary Club, P.O. Box 454, Jourdanton, Texas, 78026. All entries must be received by 5: P.M. on August 3, 2012, to be eligible.
D. The tree must be reasonably accessible to contest officials.
E.. The Entrant , by entering the contest, grants to the Jourdanton Rotary Club, all rights for publication and distribution for profit or non-profit, and releases the Club from all liability of any description, presently and in the future.
F. The Entrant agrees the decision of the Judge shall be final and incontestable.
G. Entrant will assist contest officials in all efforts during daylight hours to inspect and grade the tree for its ranking in the contest.
H. Only one prize of 1000.00 will be awarded to the owner of the most Magnificent Live Oak tree in Atascosa County for 2012.
Remember, the deadline is 5 p.m., August 3, 2012.
