Young Farmers present rodeos and festival
Chaps, spurs, saddles and ropes… real cowboys wear them and use them on a daily basis. Rodeo cowboys use them, too. Come see both at the Pleasanton Young Farmers’ Cowboy of the Year Rodeo and Festival next month, August 17-18, 2012.
Paying homage to a real working cowboy and inducting another into the South Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame is something the Young Farmers have been doing for a number of years. Not only is a cowboy honored with the title, he also receives a beautiful hand tooled saddle, designed by Ringelstein Unlimited, and donated by the Wheeler family and Atascosa Livestock Exchange.
After the ceremony and rodeo, Rocky King Band will play on Friday night. All bands are sponsored by Glacier Distributing and Manning Safety.
The Young Farmers have been adding events the last four years and this year is no exception. A barbecue cookoff is planned for Saturday afternoon. Registration will begin on Friday and partici- pants will follow the IBCA (International Barbecue Cook-off Association) rules, although it is not a sanctioned event. A washer tournament, chicken roping and music by Bracken Hale Band begin Saturday at 4 p.m. That evening’s rodeo begins at 8:00 p.m. and music by Camille Sanders will immediately follow. She will be giving away autographed CDs to children in attendance, which is sponsored by Manning Safety. Headlining for the night will be Pleasanton’s own Rodney Hayden, talented singer and songwriter.
Like any festival, there will western items sold and the Young Farmers are looking for vendors to set up for the two-day event. Contact Randy Rice (830)534-0131 or Robert Earl Wood (830)570- 1211.
