The Atascosa Bass Club fished Falcon Lake on June 16-17 and the winners of the two weekend tournaments were Keith Sutherland and Craig White.

Sutherland was one of two anglers who weighed his limit of five fish on Saturday and three of his fish were huge. His biggest was an 8.32 that turned out to be the big bass of the tournament. He also had a 7.07 and a 6.07 on his stringer.

Craig White was second with 14.15 pounds and David Higdon placed third with 13.61. Higdon had a pair of four-pounders (4.15, 4.73) that helped him take third place. Dub Billing was fourth with 11,53 pounds and Terry Vrana was fifth with 11.12.

Finishing sixth was Julius Vrana who weighed a stringer of 10.90. One of his fish weighed 6.84.

White, who serves as tournament director, said a new member, Frank Moring, weighed a stringer of 22.97 on Saturday and would have placed second but was disqualified when it was discovered that he had not paid his dues as a new member. “It was unfortunate,” said White. “No one told him that a new member has to pay his dues before his fish can be weighed. It’s a club rule.”

Moring had a 7.57, a 6.01 and a 3.91 on his stringer. After paying his dues, he was allowed to fish the Sunday tournament.

On Sunday it was White who came up with the winning stringer with a weight of 24.60. His big fish was a 7.04. Placing second was Terry Vrana whose two big fish, a 7.83 and a 4.49, got him into second place with 23.04 pounds and third place went to Richard Keylich with 20.86 pounds. He also had two large bass, a 7.44 and a 5.87.

David Higdon was the fourth-place finisher with 12.98 pounds and in fifth place was Julius Vrana with 12.59 pounds.

Placing sixth on Sunday was Darlene Higdon with a weight of 11.69.

White said the club has set its July tournaments at Falcon Lake on July 14-15.

After the June tournaments Terry Vrana was the leader in the Angler of the Year race with 210.06 pounds and was also leading the club championship competition with 1184 points.
