Glen Cowley

Glen Cecil Cowley, a long time resident of Poteet and Pleasanton, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2012. Glen was born August 7, 1915 in Ditto.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Glen worked road construction and farmed with his father in his younger days. He worked for Alamo Lumber Company for 50 plus years. He was manager of the Poteet Alamo Lumber Company and later worked at the general office in San Antonio. He was a cattle rancher for many years. He was a charter member of the Poteet Volunteer Fire Department, Mayor of Poteet, Scout Leader, Poteet School Board Trustee, Sunday school teacher Methodist Church board member, Rotary Club member and one of the founders of the Poteet Strawberry Festival.

Glen is preceded in death by his parents Lee and Nellie Anderson Cowley, his wife of 44 years Lenora Meyer Cowley, brother Wiley Cowley, sister Ollie Barnes, grandson-in-law Michael Wilkins and step-son Gary Meeks.

He is survived by his wife Gladys Cowley, son Morris Cowley and wife Lana, granddaughter Lisa Wilkins, great granddaughters Kayla and Haley Wilkins, sister Celestine Clover and Lola Mayer, step-daughter Dorcille Hadley, step-grandchildren, Troy Meeks, Leslie Soto, Cliff Hadley, and Misty Ollie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton from 2 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2012. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at the Poteet First United Methodist Church in Poteet. The interment will follow at the Sand Branch Cemetery near Poteet.
