Verdilizer

Thanks Farmers!
Sandy Housh

It seems that there is nothing that anyone can do as far as the "powers that be" in Pleasanton for us to all have a community center and library the way it was voted on, now more than once. Such a shame and waste of tax-payer monies to keep having elections when the votes never have any power behind them. Guess it's a good thing those of us in Verdi didn't even get to vote. I do like for my vote to count, even if I lose!

It was such a pleasure to see how much the farmers and ranchers have done around Atascosa County lately and how much their kids are stepping out for their futures. Those of you who work with our youth in helping them to appreciate their legacy and responsibilities as the providers of the food that we all eat to stay alive should be very proud.

Check the paper and if one of your neighbors or friends is mentioned, call them and thank them!

We have all noticed the increase in traffic because of the "boom" affecting our area, but the article in this week's paper about the need for the fire department really hit me hard. I guess it should not come as a big surprise that many of those who were able to volunteer during the day to help with fires have now gone to work for the oil service companies. Living out in the country like we do in Verdi should wake us up into realizing that we need to have some sort of plan to help each other out here. Maybe we can bring that up at our next meeting.

Speaking of the next meeting, it will be Thursday, July 26, at 7:30 p.m. All our meetings are held at the Community Center on FM- 1784. Since the borders of Verdi are S. Hwy. 97 on the South, FM-536 on the North, I Hwy. 37 on the West and the Atascosa/Wilson County line on the East, I'd surely like to see more folks at the meeting.

If you think you might be within our membership area, please come on to a meeting and let us introduce ourselves. Hope you all have great plans for the summer and we are looking forward to hearing about them. Let us hear your news!
