Jourdanton FFA members attended the Area X Leadership Camp on June 22-24, 2012 at Camp Zephyr in Mathis, Texas. The students from Jourdanton that attended include: Kaitlin Hindes, Kyle House, Michelle House, Kathryn Klumb, Amanda Lanier, Sammie Muckleroy, and Devin Vasquez.
The Area X Leadership Camp is a camp hosted by the Area Officers designed to teach FFA members the important qualities such as leadership, teamwork, and many more. Sessions were held by each Area Officer; the Current and Incoming State Officers from Area X also held a session together.
Each session was exciting, fun, and informative. What Jourdanton FFA members learned about was how important it is to set good examples, be leaders, and to work together. Games were played from musical chairs to catching marshmallows in your mouth, and each game tied into the lesson they were teaching in a fun and creative way.
A banquet was held to recognize all the students that attended the camp. Each camper received a certificate signed by all the Area X Officers. After the banquet, a dance was held that was a lot of fun for everyone. District Vespers concluded the night. It gave the members in the Wintergarden District a chance to openly talk about their fears, their goals, and anything they wanted to get off their chest without being judged. It brought everyone closer together in the District as a family.
Overall, the 2012 Area X Leadership Camp was a great camp that was a lot of fun, taught many important and valuable lessons, and brought everyone closer together.
