Upcoming events to raise funds for CASA!
Calling all racers! You are invited to the first annual Redneck Games and Hillbilly Races-- a family-friendly event that is sure to be fun for all.
Racers and business sponsors are still needed. The event will be held on Saturday, June 16, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Atascosa County Showbarn. All proceeds benefit CASA of South Texas.
There will be both corporate and parent/child derby races in the arena. Kids get sponsors, build a non-motorized hillbilly derby racer with their parent and bring it to race against each other while the crowd cheers them on. Corporate teams can enter for only $250, and they build their own derby racer to compete against other corporate teams.
The more “monsterfied” and creative the racers, the better!
In addition to the races, there will be hilarious redneck games for the kids, food, entertainment, a silent auction and the county’s largest ever water balloon fight!
Best of all, the event is free to attend!
Court Appointed Special Advocates ® (CASAs) are community volunteers who are trained to act as advocates for abused and neglected children that have been brought into the protective custody of the State of Texas (foster care). CASA volunteer advocates are sworn in by a cluster court associate judge and take an oath to keep the best interests of the child or children they serve as their focus and to maintain confidentiality. CASA South Texas trains and supports advocates to speak up for abused or neglected children in the foster care system in Atascosa, Frio and LaSalle Counties.
With more children coming into care every week, more volunteers are needed to speak up for children in court. CASA volunteers are people like you. They’re teachers, business people, retirees, stay-at-home moms, grandparents, college students; extraordinary people who want to make certain the voices of abused and neglected children are heard.
