COURTESY STORY

The Texas Tigers of the Crossroads Amateur Football League secured a playoff spot with a 52 to 0 win over the San Antonio Knights Saturday night. With their backs against the wall the Tigers won three out of their last four games. Needing 37 points to break a tie with another team they responded with a 52 point shutout. The Tigers moved their season record to 7 wins and 5 losses and will travel to Houston to play the Houston Cardinals in the first round of the playoffs.

The Tigers scored twice in the first quarter and twice in the second quarter to jump out to a 30 to 0 halftime lead. With a veteran offensive line led by Sean Berry and Pete Martinez and fullback Ricky Trevino doing the blocking a stable of running backs unleashed a punishing running attack on the Knights. Scoring on the ground for the Tigers were Emanuel Lokadoo, Arturo Cervantez, Roger Santos, and Matt Villarreal and Larry Harlan.

The second half was all Tigers as they tallied three more touchdowns. Another rushing touchdown was added by Roger Santos and passing touchdowns were caught by Brandon Harris and Lokadoo. Quarterback Larry Harlan was 5 of 10 with two touchdowns. Receptions for the Tigers were registered by Lokadoo, Harris, Trevino, and J.J. Ramos. The Tigers were only forced to punt once in the game.

Defensively the Tigers used interceptions by Matt Villarreal and Nick Sargent along with timely sacks by the Tiger defensive line led by Pete Martinez and Luke Foster to shutout the Knights.

The Tigers next game will be this coming Saturday afternoon in Houston against the Houston Cardinals. The Texas Tigers with a roster of players from the area continue to be one of the best amateur football teams in Texas. In three years they have notched a 24-13 record and have been ranked nationally as high as 1st among over 200 teams. The Tigers are coached by Richard Trevino.
