Madie Sutton

We are here today to celebrate the life of Olga May “Madie” Denning Sutton and to say farewell and aloha on her way to paradise.

She loved going to Hawaii to visit her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She thought it was so beautiful and peaceful. She was sure it was right next door to Heaven.

Madie passed away on May 8, 2012 at the age of 84. She was born in Stockdale on October 17th, 1927. She attended school in Stockdale and graduated from Stockdale High School in 1945.



She was a long distance telephone operator for Southwestern Bell and also worked as an operator at the Hilton Palacio Del Rio Hotel in San Antonio. She married Wayne Sutton November 26th, 1955. They moved to Pleasanton where they operated a business, Oil Tool Service Inc., for many years.

They did oil field repair work. Madie was a quiet, unassuming person, but she dearly loved her family and friends. She was a Christian and believed that God and his angels watched over her and protected her during her entire life. Never one to seek attention, she will be remembered for her thoughtfulness and kindness to everyone. Lord, we thank you for this life and all the love she shared with us.

Madie was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; her beloved parents, Lena Polan Denning and Harold (Forty) Denning; one sister, Tuleta Schaefer; three brothers, Durwood, George and Deedie Denning.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Sandra Jo Mitchell and husband, Gary, of Pleasanton; her kind and caring stepson, Dan Sutton, of San Antonio; stepdaughter, Perthena Latchaw, of Shawnee, Oklahoma; two dear and loving grandsons, SSG Rickey Joe Mitchell and wife Amanda, of Phenix City, Alabama and Garrett Mitchell and wife Vikki of San Antonio; five step grandchildren, Wayne Scott Sutton of California, Lisa White and husband LTC Greg White, of Florida, Michele Sutton and husband John Stowell, of Michigan, Capt. Jason Latchaw and wife Raelynn of Pensacola, Florida and Ramona Schober and husband Mathew of Tulsa, Oklahoma; twelve great grandchildren, Greg, Lexi and Chris Sikes-Mitchell, Ryland Mitchell, Lindsey, Grayson, and Landon White, Kayla and Sophie Sutton, Stella Stowell, Nathan and Gabriel Latchaw. A visitation was held Thursday, May 10, from 5 - 8p.m. at Finch Funeral Chapel, Stockdale. The funeral service was held at 2pm, on Friday, May 11, at Finch Funeral Chapel.

The Reverend Scott Jones officiated. Interment followed at the Stockdale Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in Madie’s name to the charity of one’s choice.
