Charlotte Trojan John Mark Pesqueda tags out a D’Hanis Cowboy during their district game in D’Hanis last Wednesday afternoon. The Charlotte Trojans began district play and ended their week with a 1-1 district record. After falling on the road against state ranked D’Hanis, the Trojans responded with a victory at home against Sabinal. The Trojans improve to 12-4 overall and 1-1 in district play.

D’Hanis- The Trojans knew that even though this was a district opener, it would be the toughest game in district. At the end of breezy afternoon in Medina County, the Trojan bats never came alive as they suffered a tough 7-0 shut-out. What hurt at the end of the night, is only two of these runs were earned.

The Trojans finished with just two hits offensively, as they suffered five defensive errors. The Cowboys on the other hand, accounted for six hits surrendering only one defensive error.

Trojan pitcher Isaac Santos took the loss on the mound, as he pitched six innings, allowing seven runs (2-earned) while walking three and striking out 12 batters.

“We got off to a slow start. We gave up three runs in the first and we did not hit the ball. We had a bad approach at the plate and it cost us. Isaac threw the ball well,” stated Coach Will Gates.

At bat- Santos 0-3, Javier Zuniga 0-3, Dilan Weigang 1-3, Nick Luna 0-2, Jose Rodriguez 0-2, Adan Tijerina 1-3, Steven Oropeza 0-3, Jose DeLeon 0-1 and Orlando Rodriguez 0-2.

Sabinal- Charlotte was able to claim a victory on Friday night at Trojan Field against the Sabinal Yellow Jackets. The Trojans were able to strike early and often, en route to a 13-9 victory over the Jackets.

Charlotte finished with 9-hits and suffered only two defensive errors, as Sabinal finished with eight hits but suffered five defensive errors.

Charlotte used Dilan Weigang and Nick Luna on the mound. Weigang pitched the first 4.1 innings, as he allowed six hits, nine runs (7-earned) while walking eight and striking out seven.

Luna came in and pitched 2.2 innings, allowing just two hits, no runs while walking three and striking out four.

“Friday night was a hard fought victory for us. Sabinal has improved tremendously since last season. We hit the ball well and played pretty good defense,” stated Coach Will Gates.

At bat- Santos 1-3-2runs scored, Zuniga 0-2-2runs scored, Weigang 1-5-1run scored-1RBI, N. Luna 1-3- 1run scored-3RBIs, Rodriguez 1-3-1run scored-2RBIs, J. Luna 0-2-2runs scored, Cantu 2-4-1run scored- 3RBIs, DeLeon 0-1, Tijerina 2-3-1run scored-1RBI and Eric Diaz 1-2-2runs scored.

Upcoming Games- The Trojans return to action on Friday, March 30th as they travel to LaPryor to face the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, April 3rd the Trojans will host the Brackett Tigers at 7:00 p.m.
