Poteet Aggies win district opener
Poteet Aggie pitcher Ruben Reyes fires one during their game against the Devine Warhorses. The Aggies finished the contest tied. The Poteet Aggies had a rough week leading up to their 28-3A opener. After dropping five games, Poteet was able to find success at home against Sam Houston on Monday night. The Aggies blasted the Canes, as they improve to 1-9 on the season and 1-0 in 28-3A.
Charlotte- The Aggies hosted neighboring Charlotte last Tuesday, February 28th for a non-district contest. After taking an early lead against Charlotte, things went down hill quickly.
Charlotte was able to blast 11-hits in the game en route to a 12-3 victory over the home team Aggies. Poteet’s Matt Lopez accounted for the loss in the game, as Isaac Santos claimed the victory for Charlotte. The Aggies finished with 5-hits in the game.
Devine Tournament: Navarro-The Aggies opened the tournament against a talented 3A Navarro Panther ball team. Navarro made quick work of Poteet, as they downed the Aggies 8-0. Poteet’s Ruben Reyes took the loss on the mound for the Aggies.
Devine- In the second game of the day for the Aggies, they faced the host Devine Warhorses. The Aggies played right with the Warhorses the entire game, as this one ended in a 5-5 tie when time expired. Unfortunately due to tournament rules, the contest reverted to the third inning when Devine actually held a 2-1 lead and as a result, cost the Aggies a loss per se in the tourney.
Brandon Herrera took the loss on the mound for the Aggies as Sam Ramirez took the win for the Horses. Devine finished with four hits as Poteet finished with two hits. Devine’s defense surrendered three errors compared to only two by the Aggies.
“The team showed a lot of poise and rallied in the fourth, but we struggled to finish the game before time expired,” stated Coach Trevino.
Marion/Bandera- The Aggies rounded out the tourney suffering an 8-0 loss to Marion and a 13-3 loss to Bandera.
Against the Bulldogs, John Matt Lopez took the loss on the mound, as he gave up four hits. The problem was Poteet suffered five defensive errors in the game.
The Bandera Bulldogs on the other hand, belted out 10-hits compared to 2 by the Aggies. Poteet once again, suffered three defensive errors as Ruben Reyes took the loss on the mound.
Sam Houston- The Aggies dominated the Sam Houston Hurricanes on the diamond Monday night at home. Poteet scored four runs in the first, eight in the second, two in the third and sixth in the fourth to run away with a 20-1 victory.
Ruben Reyes got the win on the mound, as he held Sam Houston to three hits while striking out six in three innings. Following him, Brandon Herrera accounted for three Ks in two innings. Offensively, the Aggies put together nine hits in the run-rule contest.
At bat- Ryan Chapa 3-3-2doubles-1triple-3RBIs, Kevin Camarillo 2-2-1triple- 2RBIs.
Upcoming Games- This Friday and Saturday the Aggies travel to Dilley to take part in a two-day varsity tournament.
On Tuesday, March 13th the Gonzales Apaches come to town for a 4:30 p.m. Jv and a 7:00 p.m. Varsity game.
