Stating The Obvious
Even though the regular season ended two weeks ago for Brush Country Girls Basketball teams, we have one who is alive and well as of press time. The McMullen County Cowgirls were able to defeat the Fayetteville Lady Lions in the Area Playoffs, as they battled with Moulton with a trip to the Regional Tourney on the line. One thing is for sure this season, people know where McMullen County is in the girls sports world in Class 1A.
They used to have a sign that stated “Welcome to the Free State of McMullen County.” I can remember attending games as both a child, then as a teenager and then as an athlete. I can even recall attending a game back in about 1995- 1996 when our varsity girls volleyball team from Natalia was what we thought of as the “real deal”. After leaving Tilden, we realized we were not nearly as good as we thought we were.
Aside from watching great sporting teams, it never hurts to eat a pre-game meal at Max’s or to stop by Wheelers. Wait, can you even find a parking spot at Wheeler’s? The Oil Boom has that town booming and there is plenty of dust flying around for everyone.
This season, Cowgirl athletics has had a very successful season thus far as they competed well in Cross Country and Volleyball before dominating on the hardwood. Coach Tony Taylor probably never knew Tilden existed, before accepting the job this season. After leading the San Saba Lady Armadillos to the State Tournament last year, he is working his magic with this years Tilden team. One thing that impresses me is their aggressive defense with numerous presses and traps, which are nightmares for other 1A girls teams to work against.
How awesome would it be, for the McMullen County Cowgirls to advance to the Regional Tourney this weekend. If they did, they would most likely meet one of the top 3-teams in the state, Rochelle. All good things come to an end, but hey, this is why you play the game and the Cowgirls remain in the hunt to achieve to new heights.
Busy weekend- It is going to be a very busy weekend in the Brush Country Sports World. Aside from a possible trip to New Braunfels for the 1A Regional Girls Basketball Tournament, we have a softball tourney in Jourdanton and baseball tournaments in Pleasanton and Charlotte. All of our spring sports schedules and tourney brackets are available on our website.
Do you realize how many photos we take at every sporting event the Pleasanton Express Sports team attends? We have 1,000s of photos available on our website and the prices are a lot cheaper than you would think. Be sure to check out the photos and purchase them as a gift or surprise for your athlete. We also have sports videos on our website from various games of the week we were able to attend.
P.s. Be sure to check out our Charlotte and McMullen County Girls Playoff pictures.
Get out and support all five Brush Country Sports teams. P.s. I have to get to Floresville to get a bite to eat before the big game. See you out and about!
