Squaws host Golf Tournament

COURTESY STORY

The Jourdanton Squaws hosted their annual golf tournament held at Pleasanton Country Club on February 15th. The day didn’t start out very nice, drizzling rain held the tournament up for a while. Starting time was slated for 8:30 a.m. but was detained until 8:50 a.m.

Scores reflected the conditions on the whole but two golfers battled the elements to post fine scores of 88.

Allyson Graybill of Pleasanton and Ale Vela of Lytle tied for top medalist and then had to take it back out to the course for a playoff. The playoff ended on the second hole with Allyson Graybill coming away with the victory. Third place was claimed by Amber Bruce of Karnes City with a score of 100.

The Pleasanton squad claimed first place team honors with a score of 409. Team members and scores were Allyson Graybill 88, Danielle Santos 105, Cheyenne Fernandez 108, Sirbrina Salazar 108 and Emalee Rice 122.

Second place went to the Karnes City team with a score of 422. Members were Amber Bruce 100, Dominic Garcez 107, Courtney Garcez 102, Stephanie Garcez 117 and Juliann Chesser 113.

Third place team honors went to the Lytle team. Playing for the Lady Pirates were Ale Vela 88, Nadia Robinson 106, Selika De Los Santos 128 and Brittany Rodriguez 113.

The Squaws were represented by Kaylee Benavides 105, Hailey Higginbotham 119 and Amber Bailey 133. These ladies are young and just beginning the sport but showed determination and got their first tournament under their belts.

Other schools that attended were Somerset, Poteet, Randolph and Natalia.

“We would like to thank all schools and coaches for attending and supporting the tournament,” stated Jourdanton Golf Coach Paul Steffek.
