Pleasanton Baseball has high expectations

The Pleasanton Eagles have not made the playoffs since 2008, but this years ball club is setting high expectations. Coach Chris Ingram enters his season year as head coach of the Eagles, and is excited about the potential of this veteran ball club. Are you ready for P-town Eagle Baseball, because it has arrived?

A look back- Last season the Eagles had plenty of ups and downs, but overall showed move positives than negatives despite missing out on the playoffs. Pleasanton finished in 4th place in 28-3A, just behind the LaVernia Bears. Pleasanton accounted for a 15-12-3 season, in which they finished 7-5 in district.

This year, Ingram is back for his second year as the head man, but his 6th year at Pleasanton I.S.D. The Eagles will return plenty of familiar faces which has Ingram excited.



Meet the Eagles- The Eagles will return the following starters to this years team: Zach Jackson-senior-infielder, Jacob Arevalo-sophomoremiddle infielder, Brenton Bouchillon-senior-outfielder, Elijah Engelmannjunior outfield/infield/ catcher,pitcher, Cameron Smith-senior-utility, Joey Gonzales-senior-3rd base/ DH, Rey Talamantez-senior 2nd base, Jacob Jandtjunior DH/1st base, Matt Shannon-junior-catcher, Jake Michaels-junior- DH/OF/3rd base, Michael Brinkman-pitcher.

Other players to watch include- Stephen Ramon, Adam Hill, Justin Smith, Kevin Bazan, Cody Dumas, Grant Jackson, James Daughtrey and Braden Bauer.

“Our team strength will most likely be our hitting, work ethic and defense this season. As far as a weakness is concerned, it would be our depth in pitching. We are a veteran team with very high expectations. Those expectations are the basis of our practices every day. These players understand what it will take to attain their goals. We want as a team to go further than any other Pleasanton team of the past- We want to take a stand and leave a legacy,” stated Coach Chris Ingram.

Schedule Outlook- The Eagles began their 2011-2012 season with scrimmages against S.A. Jefferson, S.A. Southside and Devine. Pleasanton was able to come out with a 4-1 victory over Jefferson, an 11-8 come back victory over Southside and an 8-0 victory over Devine.

“The outcome of the scrimmages was all positive. We put ourselves into some situations that we had to fight our way out of and we did. This shows the strength in leadership and their will to win,” stated Ingram.

The Eagles opened their season on press night in Floresville against the Tigers. This Thursday-Saturday, February 23rd-25th they will host the Pleasanton Invitational. The bracket is available on our website.

The Eagles will compete in the Warhorse Classic as their second and final tournament. Pleasanton will also face Lytle and Holy Cross, Churchill and Floresville in non-district games this season.

28-3A will remain the same with loads of talent as they will face Cuero, Yoakum, Poteet, Sam Houston, Gonzales and LaVernia. (A complete schedule is also available on our website. (Click on sports tab, then on sports documents)

“We start and end practice every day with a saying that represents our team. I ask them, do you have the willingness to be better than average today. At the end of practice, I ask them did we have the willingness to be better than average,” stated Coach Ingram in closing.
