FILE PHOTO The Pleasanton Lady Eagle Softball team has looked very impressive, as they are off to a 4-0 start. Aside from being undefeated thus far against a number of quality opponents, junior pitcher Emma Garcia has looked untouchable. Pleasanton will prepare for the Brush Country Softball Bash, which begins Thursday in Jourdanton.

“The girls are off to a great start claiming four straight victories. Each girl is doing their part and we are getting key hits all the way through our line-up,” stated Pleasanton Head Coach, Rhonda Savage.

Devine- The Lady Eagles began their season on the road in Devine last Tuesday February 14th. Pleasanton’s Emma Garcia was dominant on the mound, as she pitched all seven innings allowing just four hits, while striking out fourteen in the game.

Pleasanton was able to down Devine 5-0 scoring a run in the second, three in the third inning and one in the seventh.

In the second, the run was courtesy of a Kelsie Wiggins single and eventual scored thanks to a couple of wild pitches.

In the third inning, Pleasanton used two walks, a fielder’s choice by Tori Dumont and singles by Wiggins and Brooks to take the 4-0 lead.

Pleasanton finished the game in the seventh with a run courtesy of a Dumont triple, and a Wiggins single.

Pleasanton finished the game with six total hits.

Navarro Tournament: The Lady Eagles traveled to Seguin to take part in the three day Navarro Tournament. This tourney was cut short, due to the heavy rain that moved across the area. Pleasanton still managed to claim three victories at the tourney.

Natalia- The Lady Eagles opened the tourney against 2A Natalia as they simply dominated the Lady Mustangs. Pleasanton was able to use seven hits to strike eight runs for the Lady Eagles. Pleasanton’s Emma Garcia held Natalia to two hits, as she struck out fourteen in the game.

The Lady Eagles scored five runs in the second, and a run in the third, fourth and fifth innings to claim the lop-sided victory.

Austin Vandergrift- Pleasanton met their match in the second game of the tourney, against 4A Austin Vandergrift. This was a game, which featured two former Devine Arabians up against one another from a coaching standpoint.

Pleasanton used Garcia on the mound once again, as she held them to three hits and struck out sixteen in the game.

Pleasanton combined for seven hits in the game. They were able score first in the bottom of the fifth. They used three walks and a fielder’s choice put into play by Wiggins to score Keri Harriss.

The Lady Eagles added their final run in the bottom of the sixth. The run came as Kristian Garcia started things with a double, and eventually scored courtesy of a double by Harriss. This gave the Lady Eagles a 2-0 victory against a good Vandergrift ball club.

Canyon Lake- The final game Pleasanton was able to get in was against 3A Canyon Lake. Pleasanton played a perfect game all the way around, as they shut out the Lady Hawks. Canyon Lake was unable to get anyone on base during the game, as the Lady Eagles played great defense led by Garcia. Emma was able to strike out twelve, allowing them to put the ball in play only three times.

On the offensive side of things, Pleasanton exploded for thirteen hits in the game during the blow out victory. Pleasanton defeated the Lady Hawks, 12-0.

Due to weather, the remainder of the tourney was canceled. Pleasanton finished a point behind Kingsville Academy when the tourney was called out of 25-teams in the tournament.

“This past weekend our defense made some great plays to stop the other team from getting anything started on offense. I am very proud of how the girls have come out and got things rolling. They know the key to continued success this season will be doing the little things right,” stated Savage.

Pitchers note: Pleasanton’s Garcia has been very impressive and a stand out in the San Antonio area. She has pitched 25-innings, allowed 0 runs, 0 earned runs, 8-hits and struck out 52-batters.

Upcoming Games- The Lady Eagles will compete in a three day tourney in Jourdanton this Thursday-Saturday. Be sure to look at the tourney bracket which is available on our website. On Tuesday, Feb. 28th the Port Lavaca Sand Crabs come to town for a 5:00 p.m. Jv and a 7:00 p.m. Varsity contest.
