Miguel Garcia finished the season as the leading scorer for the Pleasanton Eagle Basketball team. Miguel Garcia finished the season as the leading scorer for the Pleasanton Eagle Basketball team. The Pleasanton Eagles were able to capture a victory to end their 2011-2012 season on a positive. Pleasanton was able to defeat the Yoakum Bulldogs, as they finish the season 11-20 overall and 4-8 in 28-3A action. The Eagles will lose two seniors to graduation including their leading scorer.

The Eagles and Bulldogs came out and played even during the first quarter of action. Miguel Garcia led scoring in the first as he scored six out of their first fourteen points. On the opposite side, six different Bulldogs combined to help tie this game at 14 after a quarter of action.

In the second quarter, Jason Mills and Nathan Harper lit up, as they combined for fourteen out of the Eagles seventeen second quarter points. This allowed the Eagles to take a 31-28 lead into the locker room at the half.

In the second half, the Eagles were edged in scoring, 12- 10 as Yoakum had narrowed the gap to 41-40 going into the final quarter of action.

In the fourth quarter, key free throws down the stretch were the difference. The Eagles hit six out of fourteen free throws, which helped lift them past Yoakum, 55-53.

“We finished our season on a positive note by beating Yoakum. The players had made up their minds that they were not going to lose. We plan on taking this positive spark and carrying it into next season. When we have the determination and the will, we can accomplish it,” stated Coach Ricardo Marquez.

The Eagles will lose their leading scorer Miguel Garcia who finished the season in double digits, which was nothing unusual for him, except the short time he was injured this season. They will also lose Justin Leal who also contributed this season when called upon.

“Miguel Garcia averaged 15-points per game and Justin Leal also played well. These two individuals have been with the program all four years that I have been in Pleasanton. They are hard working and dedicated players that made a difference in Eagle Basketball. We wish them the best of luck in the future,” stated Coach Marquez.
