Sargent’s off

Regarding Ben Sargent’s political cartoon in the Feb. 15 edition of the Pleasanton Express, in the words of others far smarter than myself, “Facts is stubborn things.” As reported by every major news organization in our area, it was the G.O.P. administration which was willing to compromise and assure primary elections be held in a timely manner. The Texas Democrats, aided and abetted by several extreme organizations, refused the compromise. They are the ones continuing to hold the redistricting process hostage, not the G.O.P., unless you hold to Mr. Sargent’s view that the G.O.P. should merely roll over and do the bidding of the Democrats. Then why have elections and a two party system?

Everyone should remember the words of Nancy Pelosi, “Elections have consequences.” In 2010, majority representation in Texas passed to the Republicans. This was due to the growing dissatisfaction with the manner in which Democrats were handling the reins of power, from local all the way to national offices. As a result, the G.O.P. majority legislature in Texas shaped the districts to reflect this same desire for change (weren’t we supposed to embrace hope and change?).

Ben Sargent, in light of all of his deliberate disinformation in this and many, many other ‘cartoons’, has to be regarded as a shill for the extreme left wing of the Democratic Party. The Pleasanton Express has every right to continue publishing his sort of propaganda, but it should be remembered, that as this is still a free country, many readers of this paper may likely exercise their right to seek true information elsewhere and possibly have this paper join the ranks of other now-defunct journals of record which chose to ignore their subscription base.

Respectfully,
