Walk for Life a success

Collene myers

The 2nd Annual Walk for Life” on Jan. 21, was a great success. We had an estimated 167 walkers! So far we have raised $6,212.54. We hope you will plan ahead and join us next year. The weather was beautiful, and everyone had a great time!

The walk began in the parking area of First Baptist Church Pleasanton where First Baptist youth led by Mark Camarillo hosted a bake sale. Thank you so much Mark and youth department. We appreciate your involvement with The Refuge Atascosa Pregnancy Care Center.

The walkers then proceeded to the town square where a prayer was offered. We proceeded to the city park where we had water and then walked down West Adams Street to the new building where Pastor Wade Rush addressed the crowd and after a prayer of blessing on The Refuge Atascosa Pregnancy Care Center, all returned to the church parking lot to be dismissed.

The Refuge has two new classes that began Monday, Feb. 6, Connect, at 1 p.m., and Shadows to Sunshine at 6 p.m., besides our regular services. It is not too late to get in if you come next Monday. If you don’t make it Monday, new classes for “Connect Monday” (A set of six very practical lessons concerning relationships and life skills) will begin on Monday, March 26. “Shadows to Sunshine” is an abuse recovery group which will begin new classes the second week in April.

The Refuge has seen an increase of clients returning to participate in our services and “earn as you learn program.” We are very appreciative of our regular donors that fill our Hope Closet with a wide array of items for our clients to choose from as they spend the “baby bucks” they earned by watching educational videos, and participating in all our classes and other programs.

We provide apparel, toys, baby food and many other items to clients with children less than 3 years of age; so we like to keep clothes through at least size five on our racks. If you have gently used items you would like to donate, call our office about bringing them in.

We have also been blessed by diaper drives hosted by area churches such as Community Bible Chapel and First Baptist Church of Pleasanton recently. You too can host a diaper drive or baby shower. Just call our office and we will provide you with any information or literature you need to do this.

Our next projects we would like to see accomplished are on site storage and a privacy fence. Cowboy Fellowship members recently built an awning for our deck in front of the building. We really appreciate this. We thank you fellows, for this labor of love.

For more information on our services go to our client web site www.AtascosaPregnancy.org or you may call 830-569-0030. To arrange for a speaker or to volunteer or make donations call Martha or Collene at the office, 830- 569-0030.
