The Lady Eagles season has come to an end. The Pleasanton Lady Eagles were able to finish their 2011- 2012 Basketball season splitting two district 28-3A games. Pleasanton was able to up-end Poteet, before dropping a close district contest to Cuero. The Lady Eagles finish their season with a 6-25 overall record and a 2-10 28-3A record.

Poteet- The Poteet Agates were in town for the final meeting on the hardwood of the season. Poteet was able to jump on the Lady Eagles in the first, as they led 13-8 after a quarter of action. In the second quarter, Pleasanton turned the tables, as they outscored the Agates 14-5 en route to a 22-18 lead at the half.

In the second half both Poteet and Pleasanton fought hard in what turned into a physical and close knit battle. The Lady Eagles were able to hold on for a 43-40 victory, as the Agates missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer, which would have tied the game.

Scoring- Jacquelyn Tanner 9, Kristian Garcia 9, Kierstyn Dumont 7, Allyson Graybill 6, Ashston Lopez 4, and Jenna Yow 2. Stat leaders: Rebounds- Yow 13, Dumont 12, Tanner 5 and Ramos 5. The Lady Eagles finished with 28 turnovers in the game. They also finished 17-57 from the field and were 9-17 from the free throw line.

“We started off a little sluggish, but came to in the second quarter and got after it. They hustled after everything, playing together as a whole. We moved the ball around more in this game than we have the whole season. All in all, I am very pleased with the way they played the game and never lost their poise,” stated Coach Katy Herrera.

Cuero- The Lady Gobblers from Cuero High School were in town for the final 28-3A game of the season for Pleasanton. The Lady Eagles came out strong and gave a great effort to end their season. Unfortunately, they were not able to add a digit to their win column, in a tough OT loss to Cuero.

“This group of girls have shown so much improvement over the last four months. Even though our record may not show it, this team has fought hard the whole season. Tonight was no different. After falling to Cuero by seven in the first meeting, we went into over time with them,” stated Coach Katy Herrera.

The Lady Eagles led at the end of the first three quarters of action, holding a 28-23 decision. Cuero rallied back in the forth quarter forcing OT with a 36-36 decision after four quarters of play.

During the OT period, Cuero outscored Pleasanton 7-4 en route to a 43-40 victory.

“We led the whole game until the fourth quarter. We couldn’t stall the ball to save our lives. We got too excited and started making mental mistakes, which in the end cost us the game we should have won. In the OT period, free throws hurt us the most,” stated Coach Katy Herrera.

The Lady Eagles will graduate four seniors: Adrianne Ramos, Kierstyn Dumont, Allyson Graybill and Kimberley Villalobos.

“”The four seniors on this team will be missed tremendously,” added Coach Herrera in closing.

Scoring- Dumont 11, Ramos 9, Villalobos 6, Graybill 6, Tanner 6 and Garcia 2. Rebounds Dumont 14, Ramos 6, Villalobos 5.
