The Pleasanton Eagles competed in two hard fought games during their week of action. After defeating Poteet in a defensive battle Tuesday night, the Eagles lost a one point contest to Cuero as they fall to 9-20 overall and 3-7 in district play, officially putting playoffs out of the picture.

Poteet- The Eagles and the Aggies played in a very unusual and low scoring district contest at the Sports Complex. In the first half, both teams struggled to find the hoop, as Poteet led 8-6 after one quarter of play and 10-8 at the half.

In the second half, both teams picked up the intensity a little, as Jay Stephenson scored seven en route to a 13-point third quarter for the Aggies; as Nathan Harper and Dallas Owen led the Eagles to a 13-point quarter. This allowed the Aggies to remain in control, 23-21 going into the final quarter of action.

In the fourth and final quarter, the Eagles sprung into action. Miguel Garcia who had been held scoreless up until this point, went wild. Garcia scored seventeen out of the Eagles 28-fourth quarter points. This allowed them to rally past the Aggies, picking up the 49-41 victory.

Scoring- Garcia 17, Owen 8, Alvaro Teran 8, Tyler Popham 6, Harper 6, Jason Mills 3, and Luke Walters 1.

Poteet Scoring- Stephenson 13, Sean Rodriguez 10, Stanley Mikolaczyk 6, Anthony Mendez 5, Henry Guzman 4, Noe Calderas 3.

Cuero- On Friday night, it was another barn burner in Pleasanton, as the Eagles battled the Gobblers. Unfortunately, it was the Gobblers who were able to hand the Eagles a nail biting loss.

The Eagles didn’t waste anytime getting things rolling offensively, as Harper and Garcia went to work early. They combined for thirteen out of the first fifteen points, giving them a 15-12 lead at the end of the first.

In the second quarter, the Gobblers found their success offensively, as four players combined for a 20-point quarter. Despite Pleasanton’s 15-point second quarter effort, the visiting squad held a 32-30 lead at the half.

In the second half, both teams buckled down and played better defense. The Eagles were able to edge Cuero 9-5 in the third, giving them a 39-37 lead going into the final quarter.

In the fourth, the Eagles were held to just five points, as Cuero scored eight points which included six made free throws to lift the Gobblers past the Eagles. Cuero escaped with the 45-44 victory.

Scoring- Garcia 22, Teran 5, Harper 5, Walters 4, Mills 3, Owen 2, and Popham 2.

Final Games- The Varsity Eagles will host the LaVernia Bears on Friday night for their final home game of the 2011-2012 season. The Eagles and Bears are set to tip off around 7:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, February 14th the Eagles travel to Yoakum for their final game of the year with a 7:30 p.m. game.
