Squaws split district games

The Jourdanton Squaws were able to pick up a victory during their week of 30-2A action. After falling to the Natalia Lady Mustangs, J-town was able to grind out a road victory in Dilley. The Squaws improve to 7-19 overall and 3-6 in district action, with their victory as the second round of district play continues.

Natalia- The Natalia Lady Mustangs were in town for their final match-up of the season on the hardwood. Natalia took control early, as they led Jourdanton 13-7 after one quarter of play.

In the second quarter, J-town turned the tables, outscoring Natalia 13-4 which gave the Squaws a 20-17 lead at the half.

In the second half Natalia outscored Jourdanton 16-5 before being edged 19-16 by the Squaws. When the buzzer sounded at the end of the night, Jourdanton fell 49-44. At the end of the night, the Squaws couldn’t shut down Natalia’s Elysa Ruiz, who led all scoring in the contest with 22+ points.

Scoring leaders- Tori Bautista 11, Ariana Foster 9 and JT Stacy 7.

Dilley- The Squaws responded on Friday night, as they battled the Dilley Lady Wolves for the second time this season. Once again, the Squaws struggled offensively in the first half, as they were outscored 10-9 in the first before edging Dilley 12-10 in the second quarter. This allowed Jourdanton to hold a 21-20 lead at the half.

In the second half, the Squaws watched as Dilley tied things up after outscoring them 12-11 in the third quarter.

The Squaws took things over in the fourth, as they used aggressive offense to outscore Dilley 18-10 to pick up a 50-42 victory.



“We were able to get a win on Friday and we are happy about that. We are continuing to try and improve every day. The kids are working hard and playing hard every night. We want to finish the season strong,” stated Coach Doug Lum.

Scoring- Bautista 15, Stacy 9 and Foster 8.

Upcoming Games- The Squaws will travel to Three Rivers on Friday, Jan. 27th to battle the Lady Bulldogs with a 6:30 p.m. start time set.

On Tuesday, Jan. 31st they will travel to LaSalle County to face the Cotulla Cowgirls for a 6:30 p.m. district matchup.

The Squaws will round out district play with a home game against Poth on Feb. 3rd and an away game in Karnes City on Feb. 7th.
