The Pleasanton Lady Eagles opened their 2011- 2012 campaign in Spring Branch at the Smithson Valley Tournament last weekend. The Lady Eagles dropped their first two games against Smithson Valley and Buda Hays before tying the Bastrop Lady Bears in the final game of the tourney. Pleasanton will carry their 0-2-1 record forward as they prepare for their home tourney this weekend.

Smithson Valley- The Lady Eagles opened the tournament against the host, Lady Rangers on Thursday during a noon ball game. It was a chilly afternoon, as the Lady Eagles offense was simply cold.

It was a lop-sided opener, as SV dominated the contest. The Lady Rangers downed Pleasanton 4-0 when it was all said and done. SV finished with 13 shots and two saves, as Pleasanton only had two shots at the goal, but Kelsie Piland had a great game with 9-saves.

We did not start off well and never found our rhythm,” stated Coach Brant Bird.

In the second game Thursday night, the Lady Eagles battled the Lady Rebels from Hays Consolidated out of Buda.

“We were dominating the flow of play when Hays scored their first goal. Our heads seemed to drop a little after we conceded the goal,” stated Coach Bird.

Hays was able to hold a 2-0 lead at the half. In the second half, Jacquelyn Olle had a great solo run and beat the keeper with a well-placed left footed shot to put Pleasanton on the board, as they fell 2-1.

In the final game on Friday, the Lady Eagles faced the Bastrop Lady Bears. The Lady Eagles finished strong, with a 1-1 tie.

Sterling Woerner opened the scoring in the second half with an assist from Sarah Elmer.

“We had a slight mental breakdown a few moments after we scored as they equalized with a goal. In the final 15-minutes of the game, it was an all out attack. If it was not for two spectacular saves by their goalie, the game would have been blown wide open. It was nice to see us respond in a positive way after a frustrating Thursday,” added Coach Bird.

Upcoming Games- This weekend the Pleasanton Lady Eagles will host their annual two day tournament. This weekend’s tourney will feature eight teams from around the state. Pleasanton’s first game will be on Friday at 3:00 p.m. against Southwest Christian out of Ft. Worth.
