Indian Basketball overpowered

JOE DAVID CORDOVA | PLEASANTON EXPRESS The Jourdanton Indian Basketball team was over powered in two straight games during 30-2A action. The Poth Pirates and Karnes City Badgers, were able to down the Tribe as J-town falls to 5-10 overall and 1-4 in district play.

Poth- The Tribe battled the district leading Pirates on the road last Tuesday, Jan. 10th. Jourdanton simply struggled to find much success on the offensive end of things, against a scrappy defensive squad. The Pirates held the Indians down all night long, as Poth picked up the 50-29 victory.

Scoring- Kenny Huschke 8, Jr. Elizondo 7, Daniel Oliva 6, Nick Lopez 2, Brent Tymrak 2, Colton Hurt 2. Stat leaders: Rebounds- Hurt 6, Jr. Elizondo 4.

Karnes City- Friday night, the Indians found an offensive spark during their home contest against the Badgers from KC. Unfortunately, they couldn’t hold down the visiting squad. KC was led by # 30 Braun, who was unstoppable with 37-points, not to mention four other players who finished in double digit scoring.

The Badgers jumped on Jourdanton, with a 21-14 lead after one quarter of action. Jtown turned the tables in the second quarter as they looked as good as they had all season offensively. Jourdanton combined for an impressive 25-point quarter, as they held KC to 17-points in the quarter. This allowed the Tribe to take a 39-38 lead into the locker room at the half.

In the second half, KC came out and set the tone for what would be a long rest of the game for the Indians. KC was able to outscore Jourdanton 25-15 in the third quarter and 29-16 in the fourth. This allowed them to run away with the 92-70 victory over Jourdanton.

Scoring- Oliva 27, Elizondo 15, Hurt 10, N. Lopez 7, A. Elizondo 5, Huschke 4 and Ruben Garcia 2. Stat leaders: Rebounds- Oliva 4, Chase Harrison 2. Steals- Jr. Elizondo 8, Oliva 5.

Upcoming Games- On Friday, Jan. 20th the Tribe travels to Dilley to face the Wolves in their final first round district game. Varsity is set to begin around 8:00 p.m.



On Tuesday, Jan. 24th the Tribe will host the George West Longhorns as the second round of district play begins. Varsity will begin around 8:00 p.m.
