Robert Mangum Jr.

Robert Decator Mangum, Jr., better known as R.D., was born on June 1, 1917 to Bob and Mary Newman Mangum and passed away on Friday, December 16, 2011.

He is survived by his daughter Iris Phair and husband Milton; sons: Tully Mangum and wife Sherri, Terry Mangum, Kent Mangum and wife Shelli; grandchildren, Tully Mangum, II, Alyssa Mangum, Robert Mangum, Paul Henderson, Seth Henderson, Rob Henderson, Mark Mangum, Cody Mangum and Caden Mangum as well as great grandchildren Katie and Kimberly Mangum. R.D. spent his entire life in Poteet, where he was a star running back for Poteet High School and where he met his future wife, Marjorie Ellen Haines. They spent 65 years together before she preceded him in death in 2005.

R.D. entered military service during World War II with famed 104th Timberwolf Division. He experienced heavy combat and was a decorated hero, a fact he never wanted known. He spent his career in the butane business but his heart was in the South Texas ranch country where some of his happiest times occurred. He was a loved father and friend and will be missed by many.

Mr. Mangum is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Mangum; wife Margorie Mangum and brother Elmo Mangum.

Funeral service will be held at Cowboy Fellowship Church in Pleasanton at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2011. Interment will follow at Rutledge Cemetery in Poteet.
