Atascosa Radio Talk
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a Happy New Year! In order to minimize the hustle and bustle all our members have to handle during this season, the Atascosa County Amateur Radio Club has decided to not hold a regular meeting this month. There are plans afoot to have a members pot-luck Christmas party instead, but anyone interested in that should contact the officers of the club.
The club web site (www.wa5ar.org) can help with that information, as well as inform anyone interested in amateur radio about what our club can do to help them.
One area our club helps is through providing license exam sessions, and this month is one of those times. ACARC will hold its quarterly VE session on Saturday, Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. until noon (open session not needing an appointment) and from noon until 1 p.m. for those making an appointment.
We have moved our examination location to the brick building at the Pleasanton Municipal Airport. Exams are for initial licenses or for license privilege upgrades. The cost for the exam is $14. Those who pass their exam will have the privileges of their license class for ten years and the license is renewable every ten years, currently at no cost to the licensee. Those persons wishing to test for their amateur radio license or license upgrade should contact Hugo South, KK5BZ, at 830-281-2408 to assure that they won’t be missed. Testees should remember to bring along a legal form of photo identification as well as their payment.
Next month I hope to provide a little review of the club’s activities and milestones of 2011. Until then, 73 to y’all.
