Let the playoffs begin
The bands will strike up, as the 2011-2012 Texas High School Football playoffs will kick off this week. With only one Brush Country Football team in the playoffs this season, we will take a look at some of the area 1A, 2A and 3A football match-ups for the Bi-District round of things.
Friday night game at Eagle Stadium- The lone 4A game we will take a quick look at, is a match-up this Friday at Eagle Stadium. The Southside Cardinals (7-3, 6-1) will come to town to face the Beeville Jones Trojans (5-5, 2-3).
The Cardinals were able to finish in 2nd place in 29-4A behind S.A. Brackenridge, but ahead of Lanier, Jefferson, Kennedy, Edison, Burbank and Memorial.
Beeville Jones on the other hand, finished in 4th place in a very tough 30-4A district behind Port Lavaca Calhoun, Victoria East and Gregory Portland. They did finish ahead of Floresville and Victoria West. This should be a great Bi-District match-up at Eagle Stadium.
Class 1A- Since the Charlotte Trojans are in Division I, Class 1A, we will look at DI playoff match-ups in Region IV.
LaVilla Cardinals (Runnerup 16) will battle the Yorktown (3rd place 15) on Friday in Tuloso Midway at 7:30 p.m. The winner of this contest will face a highly touted Mason Cow Puncher ball club, which won 13-1A.

The final game in Div I pits Raymondville (31) against Rio Grande City Grulla (32) who face off in Rio Grande City on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Division II- In the Bi-District Playoffs in Division II, we have eight great match-ups.
The Liberty Hill Panthers (Winner-25) will face the Navarro Panthers (Runner-up 26) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Bastrop. The winner will face the winner of the following matchup.
One of the best match-ups in the region will be between Joseph Sadler and the Devine Warhorses as they battle the Sam Houston Hurricanes. Devine (winner 27) will battle Sam Houston (Runner-up 28) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at South San Bobcat Stadium.
The Wharton Tigers (Winner 29) will face the Ingleside Mustangs (Runner-up 30) at Needville on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The winner of this will face the winner of the following contest.

The Gonzales Apaches who won 28-3A, will battle the Runner up of 27-3A Hondo Owls who are coming off a tough loss against the Devine Warhorses. Hondo passing offense should be a challenge for one of the Regions toughest defenses in Gonzales. The two face off Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Gustafson Stadium.
The Sinton Pirates (Winner 30) will battle the Sweeny Bulldogs (Runner-up 29) in Victoria on Saturday at 7: 00 p.m. The winner of this battle will face the winner of the following matchup in the Area Playoffs.
The final game pits the Rio Hondo Bobcats (Winner 32) against Lyford (Runner-up 31) as they face off in Los Fresnos at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Next week, we will take a look at Region IV, Area Football Playoffs. Since no Brush Country teams play this week, be sure to get up and catch a playoff game in person. I would recommend the Devine-Sam Houston game or the Hondo-Gonzales match-up. Of course, you could never go wrong with the Somerset LaVernia game at Harlandale Memorial. Good luck to all Region IV teams.
