After narrowly missing the playoff last season, the Charlotte Trojanettes are eager to get the 2011-2012 season underway. Coach Shawn Vowell will return to lead the Trojanettes this year. With plenty of familiar faces back Charlotte is hoping to break the playoff drought this season.

Coach Shawn Vowell will return for Charlotte, as this will be his second year in a row to guide the Trojanettes. Overall, this will be Vowell’s 10th season as a coach in Charlotte and his seventh year as a head coach.

Last season, the Trojanettes finished with a 15-16 overall record, as they missed the playoffs coming in 4th place in a competitive 1A district. Overall, Vowell sports a 118-61 record as a head coach.

Who is back for Charlotte? The Trojanettes will return plenty of talent, including five starters to their squad. Charlotte returns the following athletes: Brianna Hernandez-Sr. (averaged 8.5 points), Alexa Castillo- Sr.-(averaged 11.8 points), Martina Castillo-Sr.(Averaged 4.6 points), Amber Salazar-Jr.(Averaged 7.7 points) and Rebecca Munoz-Jr.(Averaged 3.1 points).

Other Trojanettes to watch- Vanessa Ramos-Sr., Veronica Cordova-Sr. and Katie Ramos- Sr.

Looking forward- According to Coach Vowell, the teams strength this season will be their quickness. Last week against Jourdanton, the Trojanettes showed some of that quickness which resulted in un-contested lay-ups. When it comes to a weakness, depth is something that will cause havoc for Vowell as he only sports a few subs on the bench this season.

“We will have experience and we will be fast. We are still trying to get one of my athletes from last season to come out. Right now, we only have seven on varsity. We return every starter this year, so I am hoping we make a run to the playoffs,” stated Vowell.

Schedule Outlook- The Trojanettes opened their season on the road on press night against the Pearsall Lady Mavericks. On Tuesday, November 15th the Trojanettes will host Stockdale for their first home game of the season with games at 5: 00 and 6: 00 p.m.

Other non-district contests include: Nordheim, Dilley, Cotulla, McMullen County, Nordheim, Runge, Pettus and Utopia.

This season, Charlotte will travel to the Pleasanton Tournament, host the Charlotte Tournament and travel to the McMullen County Tournament.

When you talk about district competition, this years district play will be stiff once again. Unlike last seasons 7-team district, it will be down to six as Sendero Christian has dropped out.

“Sabinal has the best offensive player in the district back. Brackett lost a lot, but their gym is like playing on ice, so they have home court advantage. D’Hanis returns plenty of talent and LaPryor is the dark horse. Lackland lost the district MVP and the district newcomer, but Coach Greenes also reloads. Gervin is just starting out their girls program, but I have heard that a lot of the students that went to Sendero transferred to Gervin which will make them tougher,” stated Coach Vowell.

As you read, Charlotte will compete against Sabinal, S.A. Gervin, Brackettville, LaPryor, S.A. Stacy and D’Hanis.

The Charlotte Trojanettes are hoping this will be the year they break their playoff drought, which dates back to the 2002- 2003 season. Will hard work, dedication and a great attitude pay off for the Trojanettes this season? Charlotte Trojanette Basketball 2011-2012 has arrived.
