COURTESY PHOTO With the fishing year dwindling down for the Atascosa Bass Club it was Craig White, a four-time club champion and twice angler-of-the-year, who was holding on to leads in both categories as the club fished its November tournaments.

The club fished Falcon Lake on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 11-12, and the winners were Keith Sutherland on Saturday and Patricia White on Sunday.

Although Craig White is in position to win the club’s two main championships this year, he took his lumps on Sunday when his wife Patricia, a former member of the Women’s Bassmaster Tour, out-fished him in his own boat. Patricia is only one of three female members of the club who fish regularly.

White said his wife beat him fair and square on Sunday when she landed bigger fish, including a pair of seven-pounders, to win the tournament.

But it was Sutherland on Sunday who found big fish on the Mexico side of the lake although he was unable to catch his limit of five fish and weighed only four. They were good ones. The stringer weighed 21.85 and it was anchored by a 7.05 largemouth.

Coming in second was Dub Billings, a veteran angler who has been fishing with the club since its inception and holds five club championships. Billings’ five-fish stringer weighed 20.65 and one of his fish weighed 8.61, which turned out to be the big bass of the day. The club’s tournament director, White, came in third with five fish weighing 19.91 and in fourth place was Roger Dove with four fish weighing 19.58. Fifth place went to Shane Pfullman with 19.57 and rounding out the top six was Terry Vrana with 16.84 pounds.

Both Pfullman and Vrana weighed five fish each.

On Sunday Patricia White used her flipping stick to weigh five solid fish including a sevenpounder that both she and her husband hooked at the same time. “I know it’s hard to believe but we threw our lures into a large bush and we both felt a tug at the bottom. When we set the hooks we thought were hung up until we finally got the fish up and it had both lures in his mouth,” said Craig White. The seven pounder was one of two fish over seven pounds for Patricia and her stringer weighed out to 26.87.

Despite catching a 9.25 bass on Sunday, and another one over eight pounds (8.53), Dove was unable to over-take White and placed second with 25.04. Craig White placed third on Sunday with five fish weighing 21.67 and Sutherland was the fourth-place finisher with 19.95. Terry Vrana placed fifth with 14.26 and Shane Pfullman took sixth place with 14.06 pounds.

With two more tournaments left for the year, Craig White had slight leads in both the points category (club champion) and angler-of-the-year.

The club will fish its final two tournaments at Falcon Lake on Dec. 17.18.
