The theme for the conference was “Save the Day with FCCLA.” Among the 3,000 delegates were Kim Briggs, Region V vice president of community service and projects, Cheyenne Schuchart, Danni Uecker, Chelsea Scheid, Megan Clifton, Sydney Lopez, Shannon Yow, Shelbee Ripple, Isabella Garza, advisor, Mrs. Edna Ulbrich, Keith Chapman, principal and Mrs. Margie Rutherford.

Artist of the month ., . - Wednesday, May 07, 2008
 | | Local artist Lee Ricks displays one of his many beautiful works. (Express photo by David Wickersham) | Lee Ricks is the Brush Country Artist of the Month for May. His talent will be on display at Wells Fargo Bank in Pleasanton throughout the month (paintings will be changed out weekly).
Ricks is a South Texas artist with a love of the beauty of nature, and a respect and interest for the older things and people that are disappearing daily from the modern world.
A native of Pleasanton, Ricks is a graduate of UT-Austin with a BS in Art. While there he was an illustrator and art editor for the Texas Ranger magazine. After 35 years as an independent businessman, in 1993 he turned his full attention to his first love and second career: art.

Free movie night at Plestex ., . - Wednesday, May 07, 2008 Crosspoint Fellowship and the Plestex Four Theater are pleased to bring a free movie event to the community. On May 15, they will be offering The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe for the public to view for free. That’s right, admission is free for this screening.
The screening will be held on Thursday, May 15 at 7 p.m. only. This is one day before the release of the anticipated sequel, Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, which will be at the theater on Friday, May 16.

Primary students to visit Elementary ., . - Wednesday, May 07, 2008 Second graders at Pleasanton Primary School get a glimpse of the future during a visit to the Pleasanton Elementary Campus on Tuesday, May 13. The students will visit classrooms, enjoy a tour of the campus, and receive advice and information about life as a third grade student. Parents are invited to attend this student orientation session; information regarding specific tour times was sent home with students, but can also be obtained by calling the Elementary office at 569-1340.
In addition to the daytime tour, a parent orientation session will be held Monday, May 12th at 6:30 in the Pleasanton Elementary cafeteria. Artist finishes work of friend’s father Ryan Renfrow, . - Wednesday, April 30, 2008

TEMPLE — The bottom of the painting has two signatures. One belongs to the late Drew Reese, the other to Yvonne Dunn.The two never met, but now they share a connection.
“My dad in his final years had Alzheimer’s, and this was his last painting,” said Reese’s daughter, Debbie Potts. “It was very apparent to us that he pretty much forgot how to paint.”
The painting sat for more than five years with only the top half completed: a blue sky and a field of trees.
Potts’ mother, Gertrude Reese, saw a painting by Dunn at her daughter’s house.
“She was visiting, and I have one of Yvonne’s original paintings and Mom passed by and said, ‘Do you think there would be any way she would do this?’” Potts sai...

The Pleasanton students came home with First Place honors in the competition along with the following individual awards:
•Sierra Davis - Best Actress;
•Jessica Huffman and Neena Rodriguez - All-Star Cast;
•Phoenix Hawkins, Katelynn Willeford and Haley Wendel - Honorable Mention All-Star Cast.
“Ladies of the Tower,” by Ruth Perry and Tim Kelly, is a drama set in the Tower of London, with ghosts of queens and cleaning ladies and a brief overlapping of past and present.
