Charlotte gets one victory in blowout of Crystal City.

SAN ANTONIO – The Charlotte senior softball little league team ran into its nemesis buzz saw, Northside Suburban and fell to the power hitting team at the Texas West Section 3 tournament.

Charlotte opened up the Section 3 tournament with a loss to Suburban 11-1 on Thursday.

Sydney Lopez and Alexa Castillo were the lone Charlotte players to record hits against Suburban’s Hennessy Soto. Soto went all seven innings with 12 strikeouts and one walk.

Lopez went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI that drove in Castillo. Castillo went 1 for 4 with a single.

On Friday, Charlotte bounced back and popped Crystal City 16-1 in the elimination bracket.

Eight Charlotte batters recorded at least one hit in the game. Castillo was perfect at the plate going 5 for 5, all singles. Lopez went 3 for 4 with two doubles and a 3-run homer in the second inning.

Marquel Gaitan went 3 for 3 and Martina Castillo went 2 for 4 with a triple and a double. Also going 2 for 4 were Rebecca Munoz and Kelley Carrasco. Veronica Cordova and Amber Salazar each went 1 for 2.

On Sunday, Charlotte took a second loss to Northside Suburban, this time shutout 5-0 in the championship round.

Charlotte had chances at the plate, this time mustering five hits on Suburban. Marquel Gaitan, Amber Salazar, Kelley Carrasco, Martina Castillo and Alexa Castillo recorded the hits for Charlotte.

Gaitan went four innings in the circle giving up five runs with one strikeout. Lopez went two innings and retired six batters.
