TYFA Brush Country Rattlers Flag team knocks off no. 1 ranked San Antonio Cowboys for first state championship.

SAN ANTONIO – For an entire season, the Brush Country Rattlers flag team played with heart and soul. On Saturday, playing in its final game, there was no letting up.

Entering the TYFA Flag state championship ranked no. 3, the Rattlers dug deep and played with more heart and soul than ever.

Facing its biggest test since the beginning of the season, the Rattlers jumped on the no. 1 ranked San Antonio Cowboys early with a quick touchdown en route to a 24-6 win for the TYFA Division II State Championship at Blossom Athletic Complex in San Antonio.

The Rattlers caught the Cowboys off-guard early when quarterback Quinn Ewers connected with Luke Tapp on a long TD pass for the 6-0 lead.

But the Cowboys answered driving to within scoring position at the goal line, but the Rattlers halted the drive with stellar defense.

The Rattlers marched downfield once again and Ewers and Tapp hooked up for a second TD pass for a 12-0 lead at that point.

The Cowboys ended the first quarter by cutting into the lead 12-6 after a long touchdown pass.

In the second quarter, the Cowboys stuffed the Rattlers on downs in the red zone preventing a third touchdown. But before halftime, Tapp intercepted a Cowboys pass to end the first half.

The Rattlers dominated the second half with a touchdown by Brent Berg and the running of RB Baylor Smith.

Defensively, the Rattlers dominated, holding the Cowboys scoreless twice on goal line stands as well as an interception by Tyler Palmer.

The Rattlers iced the victory with a touchdown by QB Ewers that sent the crowd into a frenzy.

The team was presented with the TYFA State Championship medals along with the team trophy and banner.

Luke Tapp was given the Al Hollins Player of the Game award.
