Indians counting on playoff picture Daniel Elizondo, Sports Editor - Wednesday, November 04, 2009
JOURDANTON – After a much needed week off in Week 9 of high school football, the Jourdanton Indians can now put its concentration on the final game of the regular season. Even though District 31-2A play ends this Friday night, a win for Jourdanton will send the Indians into the playoffs for the first time since 1996. “The kids know the situation they are in and they’ll play as hard as they can,” said Jourdanton Head Coach Wayne Johnson. “We will be playing against tradition. Dilley has made the playoffs 18 of the last 20 years. We’ll have to play our best game and we are capable of doing that.” Dilley (4-4, 3-2) defeated Natalia 42-14 on Friday and looks to upend Jourdanton for the second straight season. The Wolves shutout the Indians one year ago in a similar situation, ending Jourdanton’s season in the final game. Jourdanton (5-4, 3-2) is looking to have a different outcome and giving this team a playoff it’s been yearning for. “When you are playing in Week 10 and still have a chance at the playoffs then you know you are doing something right,” said Johnson. “This is what we wanted. We knew that if we still had a chance at the last game of the season, that would build our confidence and give us a better chance.” The winner will finish behind George West and Three Rivers, the only two unbeaten teams in District 31-2A. They will face off this Friday to determine the district champion. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Gosch Field in Dilley. |
