Eagles hoping for repeat of last season Daniel Elizondo, Sports Editor - Wednesday, November 04, 2009
Even though the Pleasanton Eagles and the Floresville Tigers are heading in the annual grudge match with no meaning – to both teams – it has all the meaning in the world. Both Pleasanton and Floresville have only two wins under its belt and the losing team could sink to the bottom of the barrel of District 29-4A. On Friday at Eschenburg Field in Floresville, the battle will take place. “Floresville will play the game of the year against us,” said Pleasanton Head Coach Tab Dumont. “This is their game and that is to beat Pleasanton. For us, it’s just our last game.” Pleasanton defeated Floresville last season 21-14 on a last second win to down the Tigers in a thriller at Eagle Stadium. Then, Floresville had clinched a playoff spot and was playing in a meaningless game. But for Pleasanton, it was the only way to save the season and the Eagles responded with a win. “Both teams are going to find a way to win because we are both so identical,” said Dumont. “We will all be playing for pride because that is all we both have left. The team that doesn’t quit will win the game.” Floresville (2-7, 0-5) remains winless in league play while the Eagles only victory came over Southside 24-21 in Week 8. This will be the first time in over a decade that neither team is playing in the post season. “Floresville is going through the same thing we are going through and that is a string of bad luck,” said Dumont. “But they are still Floresville. They are still huge up front, they have a good running back and good quarterback. They were a fumble away from beating Southside and they should have beat Uvalde. This will definitely come down to the fourth quarter.” |
