For the month of November, Heather Arnold, a Pleasanton native has been selected by the Brush Country Art Club as Artist of the Month.

Heather is the daughter of Rita and Franky Weathersby of Pleasanton. She is married to Melvin Arnold II and has a 19- month old daughter, Ainzley Nicole Arnold. She currently lives outside of Jourdanton, and works at Poteet Junior High School as the art teacher. She is now teaching for the second year there.

Heather grew up in Pleasanton and graduated from Pleasanton High School. Heather has enjoyed art since an early age. Throughout school, Heather excelled at art, and by the time she reached high school, she was sure she wanted to make a career out of it. Her high school art teacher, Mrs. Stinson, was a huge inspiration for her decision to become an art teacher.

After high school, Heather attended the University of Texas in Austin and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a teacher certification. She then moved back to Pleasanton but started working in San Antonio. Her first job was with Northside ISD, teaching art at Stinson Middle School. She enjoyed working there for eight years. At that point, Heather was fortunate enough to start teaching at Poteet Jr. High where she was able to spend more time with her family and new baby.

Heather enjoys creating many different types of art but her favorite thing to do is paint murals. She enjoys painting unique and personalized murals in people’s homes. A snooty butler, a mermaid, and an animal marching band are a few of the whimsical murals she has painted in the past. Arnold’s original linoleum print, Mariposas de Amor, can be seen at the Wells Fargo Bank throughout the month of November.
