Help our Vets celebrate Veterans Day next week

Poteet VFW Post 6970 members Rupert Martinez and Louis Martinez raised the U.S. Flag at last year’s Veterans Day in honor of all veterans who have served our country. The VFW Post 6970 extends an invitation for area citizens and especially to other veterans to join them at the 2009 Veterans Day remembrance ceremonies on Wednesday, November 11. Keeping with tradition, the brief ceremony will begin promptly at 11 a.m. — 11th Hour, 11th Day, 11th Month. Following the raising of the flag, those attending will move a short distance to the memorial monument along Texas Hwy. 16 (at FM-476) where members who have passed away will be remembered. The ceremony will move inside the VFW hall where there will be a tribute to POWs and MIAs. There will also be an explanation and history of the Veterans Day “Poppy” theme. Refreshments will be served.
