Matheny Carrol Ross Matheny, Chief Petty Officer, U.S. Navy, Retired 1959, died in New Braunfels on May 29, 2010 at the age of 89. Carrol Ross was born in Pleasanton on March 28, 1921 to Sudie Ross and Bernice Matheny. His mother died when he was born and he was raised by his father, his aunt, and his grandmother and grandfather, right here in Pleasanton. He attended Pleasanton Schools until his grandmother died. He was 17. He then entered the Civilian Conservation Corp. (CCC) until he was called into the Navy in 1939. It was in the service that he decided to be a deep-sea diver, and a demolition expert. During World War II, he was stationed in the South Pacific and was involved in the battle of Okinawa. After the war, he was still involved in diving and demolitions. He was stationed in Indian Head, Maryland and Charleston, South Carolina. In 1947 he married Lynn Fox and adopted her two young sons, Jim and Jerry. He retired from the Navy after twenty years-1959. Carrol and Lynn moved to San Antonio and he went to work for Mason-Hanger Medina Air Force Base for 6 or 7 years as a demolition expert of atomic weapons. After that job he worked at Camp Gary Job Corp. in San Marcos teaching diving. After ten years, he retired to Canyon Lake where he lived until now. His son Jerry died in 1995. Carrol leaves one son; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and seven -great grandchildren. He was a Mason and a 50-year Eastern Star member. He loved traveling and went RV-ing whenever he could. His beloved Lynn passed away in 1999 after 54 years of marriage. At a later date he met and married Katherine Eaton. They traveled together in a motor home all around from New York to Arizona. ”Kay”, too, passed away in November of 2006. Carrol still continued to travel in his motor home until his illness over-took him. He did love traveling. A special service will be held for Carrol Ross at Pleasanton City Cemetery, on July 10, 2010 at 10 a.m. in his own hometown of Pleasanton. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Lynn, and his entire family. God will keep him in his care. Briseno, of Pleasanton, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010 at the age of 94. Mrs. Briseno was born September 19, 1915 in Pearsall. She is preceded in death by her parents Florencio and Ramona Gonzales, husband Presentacion P. Briseno, grandson Bobby Leal and two great-great-granddaughters Marissa Leal and Athalia Lowry. Juanita is survived by her sons Lalo Briseno and wife Fortunata, Nick Briseno and wife Pauline, Diego Briseno and wife Juanita Rivera and Mingo Briseno and wife Joyce; daughters Julia Leal and husband Victor and Janie Lowry and husband Bill. She also leaves behind 23 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren and 35 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation was held Monday, July 5, 2010 from 2-9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton. Guerrero Guadalupe H. Guerrero, of Cambellton, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the age of 83. Guadalupe was born to Jose Hinojosa and Maria Guzman in Cadiz, Bee County, Texas on March 4, 1927. Guadalupe married Valentin Guerrero in George West in 1946. Valentin preceded her in death on October 23, 2000. She is survived by her three sons David Guerrero (Antonia) of Pleasanton, Daniel Guerrero (Maria) of San Antonio and Delfino Guerrero (Yolanda) of Lubbock; daughter Senaida Munoz (Carlos) of Floresville; two step-daughters, Dominga Cantu of California and Dolores Martinez of LaMarque; two sisters Elodia Perez of George West and Vicenta Godinez of Mathis. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Guerrero was a member of St. George Catholic Church in George West and enjoyed arts, crafts and quilting. Visitation will be held Wednesday July 7, 2010 from 3-9 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West with a rosary at 7 p.m. Services will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church with Fr. George Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at George West Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Guerrero, Dennis Gerrero, Stephen Guerrero, Robert Guerrero and Ray Munoz. Honorary pallbearers are Sonia Huerta and Jimmy Joe Guerrero. Rodriguez Ruben A. Rodriguez, longtime resident of Jourdanton, went home to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, in San Antonio, in the Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital at the age of 79 years, 10 months, and 23 days. Ruben was born on August 6, 1930 to Reynaldo Rodriguez and Carolina Alvarado in Tobey. He attended school in Tobey, and in November of 1952 went to serve in the United States Army, where he fought in the Korean Conflict. In 1954, Mr. Rodriguez left the army to start a family in Jourdanton. He was a very skilled mechanic and worked for many different companies. He began work at Gentry Chevrolet in Jourdanton, then the Tuttle Motor Company in Poteet. He then went to work for Sonny Matthew's in Pleasanton, and Brown Chevrolet in Devine. Later Mr. Rodriguez worked for Atascosa Mining where he retired. On, July 1, 1955, Ruben married the love of his life, Petra Mendez, in Jourdanton. Ruben is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Petra Mendez Rodriguez; his children, Richard Rodriguez and wife Ester of Jourdanton, Caroline Christine Rodriguez of Jourdanton, Dorothy Jean Rodriguez of Jourdanton, and Ruby Ann Ramirez of Poteet; his grandchildren, Richard Rodriguez, Jr., Edmundo Ramirez, Andres Ramos, II, Graciela Ramirez, Colton Rodriguez, and Mina A. Trinidad; his great-grandchildren, Mya Rodriguez, Mia Ramirez, Ismael Ramirez, and River Ramos; his siblings, Reynaldo Rodriguez, Jr. and wife Eufemia, Beatrice Mendez, Margarito Rodriguez and wife Anita, Roger Rodriguez and wife Sallie, Manuel Rodriguez and wife Hortence, Enrique Rodriguez and wife Esther, and Tillie R. Montenegro; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Reynaldo and Carolina Rodriguez. Visitation began at 5 p.m. Sunday, and a rosary followed 7 p.m. Sunday, July 4, 2010, in the Vinyard-Treviño Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, July 5, 2010 in the St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Jourdanton, officiated by Gilberto Vallejo. Interment followed in the San Jose Cemetery in Jourdanton. Serving as pallbearers were Richard Rodriguez, Jr., Edmundo Ramirez, Jr., Andres Ramos, II, Colton Rodriguez, Carlos Montenegro, and Thomas Castillo.
