Self
Our beautiful mother, grand and great grandmother, friend and mentor, Annie Mae Self, was called by our Lord on July 17, 2010 after her determined five year battle against cancer. She was blessed to be the first born child of Marguerite Hopkins Dickens and William Terrell Dickens on Oct. 16, 1932 in Crystal City. At the age of two, her family settled in Pleasanton when her father started working for Missouri Pacific Railroad. God gave her exceptional singing and piano talents. She played for her first wedding service at the age of thirteen and then sang and played at weddings and church functions. She received National Stage Performance awards throughout high school, while also performing in the live music specials at KBOP between 1940 and 1950. In 1962, she began serving as church organist for the First Presbyterian Church for the next ten years. Prior to graduating from Pleasanton High School in 1950, she held all offices and many state offices in the Rainbow Girl Association. She graduated from Draughns Business School and began working for United Gas in Pleasanton . While working there, she met John Self who worked at the Schlumberger office next door. Sharing coffee breaks led to courtship and then a blessed and loving forty year marriage, until John joined Heaven’s ranks in 1992. Mrs. Self is survived by her son John Michael Self and wife Mary; daughters Mary Margaret Wilson, Cathy Self- Morgan and husband Jack, and Judy McNair; brother Terry Dickens; sisters Margaret Eskew and husband James and Pamela Kindrick and husband Larry. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jennifer Self, J.B. Self, Chantal Riley, Jasper McNair and wife Valarie, Jennica McNair, Jayla Davis and husband Joey, Alyssa Wilson , Kristen Solis and husband Steve, Korie Regan and husband Dan and Lee Mills and husband Shean, Kimberly Derry and husband Joe, Mandy Ralph and husband Jason, Danny DeCock, Corey DeCock and great grandchildren Jayven Davis, Kianna Riley, Kaila Solis, Ryan Regan and Ford Regan, Jared Derry, Regan Derry, Zachry Derry, Barbara Derry, Kaelyn Ralph, Audrey Ralph, Natalie Ralph, and Bailey DeCock. Also, she is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Self was preceded in death by her parents Ted and Marguerite (Hopkins) Dickens; husband John M. Self and granddaughter Lindsey Wilson. Serving as pallbearers were Joey Davis, Nick Glenn, Steve Solis, Jasper McNair, J.B. Self and Kory Lyons. Honorary pallbearers were Randy Smith and Leroy Krueger. Visitation was held at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton from 2 - 8 p.m., Monday, July 19, 2010. Funeral services were held at First Presbyterian Church, Pleasanton, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2010. Interment followed at Jourdanton City Cemetery. Dannilynn Nicole Lopez from San Antonio went to rest in peace with our Great Lord on July 10, 2010 at the tender age of three weeks. Baby Dannilynn was born June 21, 2010 to Danny Lopez and Kathlene Gonzales in San Antonio. Our baby Dannilynn was preceded in death by her late great aunts Leticia Lopez Rodriguez and Ofelia D`avila Huerta. Baby Dannilynn is survived by her father Danny Lopez from Christine; sisters Kassandra and Sabrina Lopez and brother Daniel Lopez all from Del Rio, and sisters Alyssa and Laila Reyes and brother Jaren Reyes all from San Antonio. She is also survived by her grandfather Antonio Lopez from Christine, grandmother Antonia Lopez from Poteet; great grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Antonio and Rosa Lopez Sr.; Uncle Roy Lopez his wife April and their children Mark, LeeRoy, Briana and Brandon from Christine, Aunt Peggy Lopez and her children Alexis, Anthony, Erika and Rayna all from Poteet, Aunt Jessica Huizar and husband William and their children Justice, Aliyah, Crystal, William Jr., Vincent and Angel all from Charlotte, Aunt Andrea Lopez Guerra and husband Roger Jr and their children Alexandra, Andreanna, Phenelope, Gavino III and Angelo all from Poteet. Dannilynn's numerous other great aunts; uncles and cousins that survive her will miss her and love her forever. A very special Thank You and God Bless You to Mrs. Janie Regalado and the Gonzales Family. Also to Mrs. Anita Garcia and April Garcia Lopez for the beautiful flower arrangements, and to Mr. and Mrs. Sammy and Petra Hilburn. Serving as pallbearers for the service were Dannilynn’s uncle, William Huizar and cousin, Juanito Samaniego. Visitation was held at Hurley Funeral Home, in Pleasanton 78064, from 11 a.m. until noon, Friday July 16, 2010 with Brother Charlie Aguero officiating. Funeral service was held at Hurley Funeral Home at noon, Friday July 16, 2010. Interment followed in Gonzales Cemetery, Christine. Always on our mind and forever in our hearts. We love you Dannilynn Nicole Lopez, may you rest in peace our Little Angel.
Williams
Warren "Shorty" Williams died in San Antonio July 19, 2010 at the age of 88. He was born in San Antonio on December 7, 1921. He is survived by his wife Barbara June Williams, two daughters and two sons-in-law, Nanette Williams Middleton (Tom Middleton), Mary Jo Williams Crandall (Dick Crandall) and he is preceded in death by one son, Paul Earl Williams. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Nichol Lancaster (Daniel Lancaster), Jamie Henderson (Mike Henderson) and Kyle Middleton (Amanda Middleton) as well as seven great-grandchildren. Warren was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force as a Tech Sergeant. Settling in Bradenton, Florida where he was an avid fisherman and scuba diver, he retired from Florida Power and Light Company after 30 years. Also building and teaching the company's Electrical Apprentice Program. After retiring, he and his wife "Bobbie" returned to his family farm in Pleasanton, Texas where they spent their summers. He will be greatly missed but his family celebrates his going home to be with the Lord. Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home, Thursday July 22, 2010 from 6 - 9 p.m. Burial will be private.
Akers
Florene Mae Akers, age 85 of Pleasanton, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010 in Jourdanton. Florene was born February 28, 1925. She loved serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church, in Poteet and Pleasanton for many years. Served as WMU President Frio River Association Staff member at Alto Frio Baptist Encampment, and worked with young girls during missionary camps. Florene also enjoyed traveling; one of her favorite places is at the lake house in Kingsland, that she and J.R. bought in 1959. She worked diligently alongside her husband, J.R., in their peanut farming business, spent many days cooking delicious meals at the “Ditto Café” during peanut season. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Akers) Porter and husband Richard; sisters, Helen Winterton and husband Bob and Diane Byerly; sister-in-law, Ann Russell. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Pamela (Porter) Bunch and husband Larry Gwynn, Debbi (Porter) Dickinson and husband Jeffrey, Jason Dean Akers and wife Debbie, Ryan Porter and wife Emeri and Jarrett Akers and wife Lisa and great grandchildren, Kelsie Bunch, Alyssa Bunch, Kyle Dickinson, Emily Akers, Kendall Dickinson, Whitley Akers, Clayton Akers, Harley Porter, Justin Akers, Will Akers and Riley Porter. She is preceded in death by her parents, Beakley and Myrtle Russell; husband, J.R. Akers, Jr. the love of her life whom she married in 1943; son, Marvin Dean Akers; daughter-in-law, Kathy Akers; sisters, La Verle Knight and Betty Jean McDonald and brother, Byron Russell. Visitation was held at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton from 3 - 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 18, 2010. The family received friends between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m. on Sunday evening. The funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 19, 2010 at Hurley Funeral Chapel. Interment followed at the Rutledge Cemetery in Poteet. Katie (Lambaria) Echigo, age 89, of Pleasanton, Texas, passed away Friday, July 16, 2010, Pleasanton, Texas. Katie was born September 16, 1920. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Sue (Echigo) Arguijo of Belton, Teresa (Terrie) Echigo of Pleasanton, sons, Joe Ernest Echigo of Dallas, Robert Lee Echigo of San Antonio, James Edward Echigo of Pleasanton, sister, Trine Casas as well as thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home, 118 W. Oaklawn Rd., Pleasanton, Texas, from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM Tuesday, July 20, 2010. A funeral service will be held at St. Andrew Catholic Church at 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 21, 2010. Interment will be at San Ysidro Catholic Cemetery in Pleasanton, Texas. Dale Keith Hurd born on November 23, 1955 passed away Tuesday morning, July 20, 2010 to be with the Lord. He is survived by his wife, Therresa Hurd; his sons David Hurd, Joseph Hurd and his wife Erin Hurd, Michael Wells and his wife Christina Wells, Dustin Wells, and Tony Wells; his grandchildren Bailey and Keely Schaub and William Hurd; his sisters Janet Porter and Karen Frazier (who lives in San Antonio) and his brother Doug Hurd and his wife Vickiee Hurd.
