Elaine Marie (Leber) West, age 48, of Pleasanton, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2010, in Pleasanton. Elaine was born December 29, 1961 in San Angelo. She is survived by her father, Louis W. Leber & step-mother Mary of Lanexa, VA.; her ex-husband Gerald West of Pleasanton; daughters, Amy Marie West of Pleasanton, Dakota Christine West of Pleasanton, Casey Sue Ann West of Florida, Shana Lee West & son, Keith Hardwicke of Hampton, Va. She is also survived by her brothers, Tony Leber of Florida, Troy Leber of Virginia & sister, Lisa Leber of Ill. as well as five grandchildren, Jeffrey Young, Lauren Hardwicke, Jacob West, Dean Hernandez & Jenna Ruth Wiggins. She is preceded in death by her brother Wesley Leber. Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home, 118 W. Oaklawn, Pleasanton, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2010. Dora H. Antu, age 77 of Campbellton, passed away Friday, June 18, 2010 in San Antonio. Dora was born on March 17, 1933 in Campbellton. Dora is survived by her husband Jesus Antu, Sr of Campbellton; sons Manuel Antu, Sr and wife Rosemary of Deer Park, TX, Roy Antu, Sr and wife Katrina of Somerville, TX, Adan Antu and wife Minerva of Deer Park, TX, Robert Antu and wife Oralia of Pleasanton, Jesse Antu, Jr and Kathy Whittle of Campbellton, Paul Antu and wife Nancy of Pleasanton, Daniel Antu and wife Vangie of Devine, and Johnny Antu of Campbellton; daughters Dora A. Antu of Pleasanton and Mary Huerta and husband Pedro of Pleasanton. She is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Gregorio and Eufracia (Zepeda) Hernandez, numerous brothers and sisters. Brumley
William Devon “Bill” Brumley, age 65, of Tilden, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2010, in Tilden. William was born on August 17, 1944 in Eagle Pass. He is survived by his mother Royce Brumley Stone of Kerrville, daughters, Kimberly Ann Brumley of Corpus Christi, Kathy LaGuardia and husband Kris of Parker, CO, Elizabeth Brumley of Louisville, brother, Bob Brumley and wife Karen of Tomball, as well as his nephew and niece, Shane Brumley of Houston and Melissa Brumley of College Station. An avid entrepreneur and outdoorsman, Bill’s distinguished career included many years as a first class mechanic and general foreman for Brown & Root, Inc.during which time he oversaw the maintenance and operation of all equipment used in the construction of the Corpus Christi Petrochemical Company plant on McKinzie Road in Corpus Christi, Texas, and was featured for his maintenance practices in Texas Contractor magazine. His subsequent position with Goldston Corporation provided opportunities for Bill to develop an equipment management system resulting in improved inventory practices and reduced operational cost. In 1982, Bill formed Brumley & Brumley, Inc., which for more than 25 years, proudly served the construction and industrial community of Corpus Christi. In the mid-1990s, Bill began his life in McMullen County as a hunter and cattleman. Brumley Ranch was Bill’s final project and he built it into a fine Beefmaster cattle breeding operation for which Bill was named McMullen County Conservation Rancher in 2005.  Bill’s life of service to the community included decades as a leader in the West Corpus Christi Rotary Club, Adopt-a-School partner for Gibson Elementary School in Corpus Christi , host to the McMullen County 4-H Shooting Sports Club, and annual buyer of McMullen County Livestock Show youth exhibits. On a more personal level, Bill cherished the opportunity to be a mentor and advisor not only to his own children, but also to the youth of the communities in which he lived. Visitation was held at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2010. Family was present from 4-6 p.m. A funeral service was held at McMullen County Community Center in Tilden at 10 a.m. Monday, June 21, 2010. Interment followed at Hilltop Cemetery in Tilden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the William Brumley Endowed Fund under the Permanent Fund of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, which will provide clean drinking water to underprivileged communities around the world.

Guillermina “Mina” Chapa Cantu, age 58, of Von Ormy, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2010 in San Antonio. Guillermina was born on May 23, 1952 in Alice. She is survived by her husband of 35 years Jesus B. Cantu, Jr. of Von Ormy and sons, Damien & Marco Cantu. She is also survived by her sisters & brothers, Grace R. Chapa of San Antonio, Beatrice Sanchez & family of Poteet, Martha Cruz & family of Corpus Christi, Gloria Garza & family of Alice, Mary Carrillo & family of Oklahoma, Fred Chapa & family of Oklahoma, Manuel Chapa & family of Poteet, Robert Chapa & wife Lupita of Corpus Christi, Ernesto Chapa of Oklahoma and Reynaldo Chapa of Alice as well as her grandchildren, Damien Cantu, Jr., Alajia Rene Cantu, Dameazzthan Cantu, Julian Cantu and many other relatives & friends who loved her and will miss her dearly. Mercedes T. Navarro, age 72, of Poteet, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2010, in Poteet. Mercedes was born on September 27, 1937 in Somerset. Charlotte Irene Stevens, age 45, of Somerset, passed away Monday, June 14, 2010, in Somerset. Charlotte was born on December 9, 1964 in San Antonio. She is survived by her brothers, Johnny Stevens & wife Frances, David Stevens & wife Lila, Walter Stevens & wife Shirley, Clarence Stevens, Jr. & wife Debbie. She is also survived by her nieces & nephews, Jessica Stevens, Savanah Stevens, Alysa Stevens, Hannah Stevens, Madeline Stevens, Mille Jo Stevens, Molly Stevens, Johnny Stevens, Jr., Wesley Stevens, Justin Stevens and Jason Stevens; aunts, Caroline & husband Dan, Marion & husband Kindell, Artie, Frances, Bobbie & husband Bob, Myrtle & husband Wayne, Shirley & husband Doyle; uncles, Harold & wife Dorothy, Rusty & wife Josie, Preston & wife Anne. Matocha
Alfred Eugene “Gene” Matocha Sr. died peacefully in his sleep, Saturday, June 19, 2010 at his home in Portland. He was 69. Born July 19, 1940, to Gus Matocha and Agnes Parma Matocha of Jourdanton, Gene was the second of four siblings. He graduated from Jourdanton High School in 1958 and joined the R.O.T.C. while completing a B.S. in chemistry from Saint Mary’s University in San Antonio. He went into active service with the 1st Cavalry Division becoming a pilot and achieving the rank of major. Originally stationed in Korea, he later served two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Distinguished Flying Cross, among other awards before he was honorably discharged in 1974. Upon completion of his military service, Gene became a trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety, graduating first in his class. He retired as senior pilot over the South Texas region in 1996. He then became a federal court security officer in Corpus Christi with the U.S. Marshals Service through 2006. A devout and dedicated Catholic, Gene served the Lord by serving those in need as a third degree knight in the Knights of Columbus and president of Our Lady of Mount Carmel’s Saint Vincent de Paul Society. His latest efforts included being involved with the renovation of a widow’s home damaged by a fallen tree. A devoted husband and father, Gene leaves behind his loving wife of 35 years, Barbara Scott Matocha; son, Alfred Eugene Matocha Jr. (Nancy); daughter, Kimberly Matocha Getman (Ryan); son, Joseph Matocha; grandchildren Emma Matocha, Brendan Matocha, Kameryn Getman and Taylor Kayt Getman. Gene is also survived by his brother, Dan Matocha (Martha); sister, Anna Rose Matocha Wyatt(Bob); sister Annette Matocha Fields (Nolan); as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 22, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Portland. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday June 23, 2010. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 24, 2010 in Jourdanton. Assisting as pallbearers are Nolan Fields IV, Steven Hardy, Clay Hubbard, Hunter Scott, Dennis Vyvlecka, Gregory Vyvlecka, Neal Wyatt and Tully Wyatt. “Service to others is service to the Lord,” is the mantra that Gene lived by. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Our Lady of Mount Carmel’s Saint Vincent de Paul in Portland. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Limbaugh Funeral Home, Portland.

Margarita Montemayor was called home by the Lord on June 18, 2010. She was preceded in death by father–in-law Adolpho Montemayor. She is survived by husband, Oscar Montemayor, daughter, Edith Montemayor (fiancé Johnny Ray Moreno), son, Oscar Montemayor Jr., Parents, Wenceslao & Maria Elena Medina, sisters; Paula Gonzalez, Clara Medina, Elvia Elizondo, Elida Aguilar, brothers; Juan, Ricardo, Javier, Jose Jesus Medina, mother-in-law Eva Montemayor, brothers-in-law; Steve, Andrew, Eddie Montemayor, sister-in-law Bertha De Leon, numerous nieces, nephews other relatives & friends. Visitation begins Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 5 p.m. at Trevino Palo Alto with a Rosary to be held at 7 p.m. that same evening. A funeral procession will depart on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church with interment to follow at First Memorial Park.

Pantaleon Garcia Gonzales, age 87 of Jourdanton passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2010, in Jourdanton. Mr. Gonzales was born July 27, 1922 in Poteet. He is survived by his wife, Leanor Gonzales of Jourdanton; daughters, Janie Daly and husband Jerry of Bellflower, California, Mary Torres and husband John of Hawaiian Gardens, California, Virginia Gonzales of Janesville, Wisconsin, Lynda Allison and husband Rob of Indianapolis, Indiana; sons, Art Gonzales of Jourdanton, Richard Gonzales and wife Carol of Fresno, California, Joe Gonzales of Edwardsville, California, Ernie Gonzales of San Bernadino, California, Tony Gonzales and wife Betty of Las Vegas, Nevada, Lupe Gonzales of Las Vegas, Nevada, Robert Gonzales and wife Della of Hawaiian Gardens, California, Mario Gonzales and wife Karine O'Bryne of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Jesse Gonzales and wife Shelia of Belvedere, Illinois. He is also survived by his brothers, Nieves Gonzales of Phoenix, Arizona and Castulo Gonzales of Pleasanton. He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, as well as 16 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by parents, Saturnino and Lorensa (Garcia) Gonzales and brother, Barbarito Gonzales. Bryan Thomas Veteto, 56, of Bryan passed away at home from cancer surrounded by his family on Wednesday, June 16, 2010. The Rosary was held Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Hillier Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial was held by Msgr. John McCafrey and concelebrants Father Vincent Nguyen and Father Steve Sauser at 3 p.m. Monday, June 21, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment followed at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. His pall bearers were his son Caleb Veteto, his brothers Gerald Veteto and Mark Veteto, his nephew David Veteto, his cousin Lee Steinle, and dear friend Larry Lawson. Bryan Thomas was born to Maxine Steinle Veteto and Hearol Ray Veteto on November 30 1953. Bryan’s young life was spent in Poteet where he attended through the 7th grade after which his family moved to Pleasanton. Bryan graduated from Pleasanton in 1972. Bryan then moved to Bryan/College Station where he worked, attended college and lived with his family. Bryan was a loving and caring family man and friend. He worked as an engineer at Texas A&M University Physical Plant for more than a decade. Bryan was an avid baseball fan who enjoyed watching his children play baseball and also umpired for several of the leagues within the local TASO chapter. He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church and was very active with the St. Joseph Catholic School System. Bryan was preceded in death by his father Hearol Ray Veteto of Pleasanton, TX. Survivors include his loving wife of 23 years, Kyanne Veteto of Bryan; children, Kailey, Caleb and Zane Veteto, all of Bryan; mother, Maxine Veteto of Pleasanton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Lisa Veteto of San Antonio and Mark and Faith Veteto of Buda; sisters and brothers-in-law, Diane and Alan Garner of San Antonio, Laura and Kyle Mikolajczyk of Poteet; sister-in-law, Kristin Mangold and husband, Jim McKillop, of Florida; father-in-law Gene Mangold and wife Vera and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Casanova
Arturo Casanova, 76, passed into eternal rest June 18, 2010 in San Antonio. Mr. Casanova was a lifelong resident of the Rossville and Poteet area and a member of St. Phillips Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife Maria A. Casanova of Poteet, sons Cletus of Pleasanton and Thomas of San Antonio and Joseph who preceded Mr. Casanova in death. Also surviving sisters Lydia Guzman of Pleasanton, Annie Horgraves of Poteet and Yolanda Casanova of San Antonio. Mr. Casanova was preceded in death by this parents Santiago and Silveria Casanova of Rossville and brothers Johnny Casanova of Jourdanton, Santiago (Jr.) Casanova of San Antonio and Roger Casanova of Sun Valley, California. Rosary was recited June 22 at Delgado Funeral Home in San Antonio. Funeral mass was held on June 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Pleasanton. Burial followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Leming with full military honors.
